Huge Improvement !

My friend Waskillywabbit hooked me up with an All-Pro steering stabilzer.
I finally installed it last night - all I got to say is WOW !

The puny little stabilzer that Toyota put on my 4 runner 15 years ago
was marginal at best. If you have not done this mod yet - I strongly
recommend it. My 4 runner drove decent before - but it drives and handles GREAT now - no shimmy, no wandering and feels very stable even when passing big trucks on the Interstate.

Cheap mod too ( for me anyway ) Less than $100.00 for the rest of you.

Thanks Wabbit !

Was this on a 2nd Gen? Did you need an adapter kit to bet it to bolt on, or did it just bolt right up? What was the part number of the stabilizer?

Yes it was my 1990 2nd generation. Here is the web address for All-Pro
http://allprooffroad.com/

I did not get a part number but I think they are all the same. The stabilzer came with a mounting plate that clamps to the drag link with two u-bolts.
The end that connects to the frame bracket is to big for the bracket. I enlarged the holes to 1/2" with a drill and attched the stabilizer below the frame bracket - bolt went through the end of the shock and then up through
the bracket with a lock nut on top of the bracket. All it needs is an anchor point - no added stress on the bracket. Took me about 45 minutes to install. I do have a pickle fork for removing the original stabilizer tie rod end connector. - you will not reuse that hole.

Pics are worth a thousand words and for some reason, I am very visual ...

Can you take a couple ?

Thanks

Yeah, I've heard really good things about using aftermarket stabilizers. I'm probably going to be getting an OME one within a few months.

Was it pretty easy to install? Any special tools?

Well, have fun all.

Easy install - once you remove the skid plate. The only special tool used was the "pickle fork" for removing the tapered tie rod end on the old stabilizer.
The Worn out Toyota stabilzer reminded me of a bicycle air pump - the bicycle pump might of been stronger

Yes - the wabbit has friends - I'm proud to be one of them

Think it'll make a difference even with 37's? If you suggest the dual kit, I'll stab you in the jaw.

I emailed Allpro, and asked if they had the kit for my rig. They said they only have kits for rigs that have been SAS'd.

I did that to mine years ago and it does make a huge difference. I had to use a kit for both ends. Could not remove the old one from its mount point. Had to cut off both ends.
