How's my Cat look to you???
I pulled off my catalytic converter to check and see if it needs to be replaced and from what I can tell, it looks real good to me. I have been hearing a annoying exhaust rattle from under the truck and pretty much tracked it down to being the cat but once I removed it and shook and banged it there was no noise coming from it at all. I also stood it on end expecting to see some debris fall out but nothing!!! I'm assuming the rattle is coming from my muffler now as it's outer weld/seam has come apart.
Here's a pic of the cat (after 190,000 klm's). Still looks okay right?

That's what I thought. So anyway, I took the heat shield off the cat and replaced the O/2 sensor while I had it out, (it threw a CEL code a few months ago but has not come in again since). I then reinstalled the cat and the rattle is gone. Must've been the heat shield after all I guess. Now to go shopping for a new Magnaflow muffler! Thanks for the input BTW.

Swede, good luck on tracking down the noise. I started hearing a noise on my 4Runner a while back and tracked the noise down to the 2nd cat. Had the dealer look at it and they said both my cats needed replacing! Went back home, crawled back under there and found that one of the heat shield bolts had broken free from the weld. This bolt alone was the cause all of the irritating noises I was hearing. Can't believe I missed that before.
Check it out here. Posted a few videos of before and after the noise too: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/b...ow-fix-187082/

On a side note, changing the O2 sensor made a noticeable difference in power for some reason as well as getting rid of a little bit of a sluggishness between 2000 & 3000 rpm. The old one must've been in bad shape.
