What are people paying to get manual 2wd toyota pickup (mines a 94) transmissions rebuilt? My rear main seal is leaking and while I was at it I was thinking about taking it in to get worked on since is giving me issues. Also what type of manual trans do I have?

I dont know much about toyotas so any help is great.

 

i got a 4x4 tranny and transfer case for $300 an it looked like it had just been rebuilt an it works great. if ur in or near PA talk to yota parts dude

 

Bad question, I should have asked what type of manual trans do i have (model etc)? Then I could call around trans places and ask how much they would charge to work on it.

What normally needs to be replaced, fixed in these transmissions?

Im in Ca btw so Im going to do something local.

 

you can find the type of tranny in the door jamb, there will be a letter/number designation there, like W55 or G40. post it up here for us to verify!

 

Bearings and synchros are usually all that need replaced. And of course seals. Very unlikely to wear out gears, although I have broken few reverse gear teeth over the years...

Dealerships will charge anywhere from $1500 to $3000. (really!) The complete set of parts alone run almost $500. Marlin Crawler does it for a great price, but don't forget to add shipping.

I got new bearings and synchros along with a new clutch and rear seal for about $1000 about 3 years ago from Leon's Transmissions in Orange County, CA. My buddy who runs an independent Subaru/Mitsubishi/Hyundai repair shop recommended them and said they are good guys. I've been very happy with their work.
