Well i have 373,514 and there no shakes no smoke runs like a thorbred and im the second owner. the only thing i don't like is it's a 4banger and 2wheel drive. I mean what can i really do with that but drive it, AND I DO LOL.

Of course, we all know this, which is why we all own Toyotas

My 2000 SR5 is at 103,500mi. about to do a B&M tranny cooler, new spark plugs and wires, new rear axle (rust ate my current one), all fluids change, and I need to check on the timing belt and water pump. Down the road is new suspension, skid plates, tires.
Paint looks great, interior is great, rust is really the only problem, and it isn't so bad that a little Por-15 can't fix it.

But I'm sure the union will go bust managements chops and get the guys their jobs back. I know this will get some dander up but one of the biggest reasons for the high build quality we saw in the older Toyota vehicles was because they were built in NON-UNION plants.

So with all this talk of miles, how many miles would your 4runner have to have before you wouldn't trust it on a road trip?
The reason I ask is my 01 is at 300K miles and I'm going to take a trip from Houston, TX to Colorado Springs in December which is about 1000miles.
I did this same trip about 2 years ago in my 4runner and it had no problems except only being able to make 30mph up Raton Pass, but my runner was 50K miles younger back then.
Everything is running great aside from the minor valve cover gaskets leaking which I'm gonna fix next month. Its just you see 300K miles on the odometer and you start to wonder ya know ?
The alternative is my wifes 06 LJ Jeep which on a long trip is like riding out a hurricane in a spam can. Plus that big straight six 4 liter engine only gets about 15mpg and that's with a tail wind.
So what say you guys would you take a 4runner with 300K on the clock for a 1000mile trip in the winter time?

I'd just get in it and go. If the car is mechanically sound, good compression, etc., I cannot see any reason not to. 300K is daunting but just a number; there are many other car makers with models I would not take out of the county on a road trip with more than 100K on them. Enjoy.
I've done a 1500 miles trip in a Jeep. Not again. Ever. I do not think I'll ever be able to reclaim the hearing or hair I lost on that trip.
Unions: on paper, good idea to protect worker's rights and to assure the company hiring that they are employing and retaining good, qualified, trained workers. In reality, egh, not so much. One would think that if unions took pride in their work all the time, they would police themselves and get rid of the slackers, knowing it makes them look bad, and ultimately brings down the bottom line. But I guess that is not happening anytime in this century......

I actually like to have a fighting chance in a collision
. Once I move out of Houston (and Texas) next year I will probably buy a Corolla or Camry.FOG

294k on my 96 ltd v6 4wd
And not easy miles. Lots of pulling dirtbikes, driving on beach, towing jetskis, here in NC.
Ah gotta love the 4runner.
I did have my flex plate break (w/o warning) 10k ago. Other then that, 1 rear seal, and rebuilt the starter contacts once.
I drive 120miles/day.
Get 18-20mpg
Love it, love it!

just rolled over 193k in my 97 4runner. Bought the truck the other week for a great deal. 3.4 5spd leather. clean clean and just picked up a sport hood for cheap aswell. gonna paint and plug that up soon. Trucks runnin perfect and I can see years and years more driving left.

Just turned 160K on my 1996 SR5 4x4 5 speed w/ tow
My truck still looks and runs great. I regularly pull a 6x12 enclosed work trailer and fish/ski boat. I just had a certified inspection and everything looked good. I've done regular maintanance and replaced some bulbs. The only problems I've had was 1 bad fuel injector and a rusted transmission relay. I want to be buried in it, and just might!

My new '02 has 93K. If I don't sell it, I will put 300K on it. LOL.
