how do i disable the pwd anttenna (fuse?)

My friend's 95 SR5 has a busted pwd antenna and needs to be replaced. I thought I'd pull the fuse so she doesn't have to listen to it grind for 20 seconds when she starts and stops the engine. I'm not sure where and if the antenna fuse is shared with other electronics.
Any thoughts?

I just went out and looked and didn't see a fuse just for that. The motor is behind the lining in the fender...Not too bad to get to but a bit of a pain. Your best bet might be to just pull the dash apart and cut the wire coming off the back of the deck. I removed the whole power assembly out of mine and replaced it with a fixed mast. There's a write up in the tech section on how to do that. Them power ones are phoney.

i did the same, my power mast stopped working and the retractable antenna was all mangled, so i switched it out with a whip (dealership said they didnt make such a thing, till i got it)... on the other hand, if she has changed out her stock head unit with one that plays mp3s, i say scrap the antenna all together and fill the hole, i would have done that, but i bought the new antenna before i bought my deck.

Easiest is probably to remove a couple of the screws in the fenderwell liner and reach in there and unplug it.

Thanks, I'll try the last suggestion. I have a feeling she will want to replace it to stock, or the whip. Gotta get the AM so she can hear Air America.
Thanks a bunch.

If you replace it stock, just get a replacement mast (my last one was $15) and not the entire $200 motor assembly. It's a real test of character the first time you replace the mast - it is so very simple, but like so many things, requires more hands than most people have. (I hear that if you're from Queensland you actually have 3 hands...) You'll get frustrated with it but it's not too bad really, it'w one of those things that just when you get it together it pops out and goes all over the place...

if its the mast, go to pep boys and get a replacement mast. they are $15 bucks. you gotta remove the antenna and take apart the motor assembly in order to get all the old plastic antenna gear line out. The replacement antenna will say "for celica only" but its the same antenna mast. It actually works for 3rd gen 4runners too, but in order to get it to fit, you must use a bench grinder to grind a metal fitting down. its actually pretty easy. For your 2nd gen runner, it should fit without any modifications. Just hook up power, turn on the radio, and stick the gear line of the antenna (white plastic) down the hole. It'll feed right into the gears. if it doesnt go all the way, just use a rubber mallet and hammer it in.

now if its the motor assembly itself that is bad, well...replace with a whip. good luck
