how did he disable my power antenna
The mast on my 2000 4Runner's power antenna broke. Some time back, my wife got tired of hearing the motor wind, so she mentioned it to a mechanic. She can't remember who. He quickly did something to disable the motor. Now I want to replace the antenna, and I need to reconnect the motor. My wife is drawing a blank.
What's the most likely way that he could have disable the motor? I can't imagine that he went to the trouble of getting to the motor itself, and I don't want to open up the wheel covering just to see. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks. Whatever he did, he did it quickly. I looked in the fuse box and none were missing. I'll have to make sure there's not another fuse box. And I'll try to get to the back of the radio without pulling it. I'm sure he didn't pull the radio.

Assuming your power antenna broke the normal way (the plastic part of the antenna mast snapped causing the antenna to no longer move up and down), you will need to get to the motor to fix it anyway because you will need to open the motor up to remove the broken part of the old mast. While you are doing that, you can confirm that the harness is still plugged in. IMHO, unplugging the harness would be easier than getting to the back of the radio to cut the wire.

It's easy to pull back the fender liner and unplug from underneath. Just turn the wheel all the way to the left. If this is what he did you should see a loose connector or wire hanging somewhere in there.

unplug relay
here's the deal. just unplug the power antenna relay. it affects nothing else. it is the brown box mounted below the stereo. takes maybe two minutes to get to through the center dash face plate. if you have real small hands and are real limber you can reach behind from under drivers sideand unplug the connector. i unplugged it and the antenna stays down and still picks up stations very well. if you wanted to wire in a switch for the antenna to go up or down it would be much easier doing it from that connector. i think it is the yellow wire that triggers the motor but not sure. probably have to look at a wiring diagram. anyway just wanted to point an easier and cleaner way than tearing out your fender well
