Horrible grinding sound when turning tight
It is only when I max out the turn on the steering wheel. It sounds like metal on metal. I can't see where it is binding/grinding.
Any ideas on what to look for? I must be getting old.

On 2nd gen toyotas there is a steering limater in the form of a metal peg and a dished metal face located behind the right side of the wheel. Trun the wheel all the way to one side and see whare it hits and you will see what I mean. The pegs have plastic caps from the factory but once thoes break you have to put a dab of grease on them regularly to stop the noise. It's really obnoxios. It happens when the weel is cranked and you go over a bump right? Take a look. Once you know about this problem you can simply dab more greas on whenever the sound comes back.

The "groan stopper" covers are available online at various online auto parts stores as well as at the dealership. I've found them for as little as three dollars and change each. At that price you might as well buy a bunch since they will wear out. I prefer buying them rather than going with the grease solution since the grease still allows metal on metal contact.
Heck, maybe buy them and grease them. It may prolong their life.
