Hope for the dipstick novice

See the Tech section for a new article posted by Al Kwan. It illustrates everything you need to know about checking your fluid levels. After you've read it, make your wife/girlfriend read it. Who knows: she might check everyting for you while you watch the games on Sunday.

Dont quote me on that.

Thanks for all the tech articles.

Now, if i may pick a few nits. My 2000 has a drain plug on the automatic transmission. At least I believe that is what I see. So, at least some third gens have drain plugs and it would not be necessary to drop the pan to drain a little fluid in the event of an over fill.

Secondly, it might be good to include a few words on what a pain in the a$$ it is to replace the automatic transmission dipstick. That subject seems to come up from time to time.

Again thanks for your good work. Time to go wash my truck.

Checked the info on the drain plug, yes sirree you are correct. Thx dude. Updated the page to reflect that. I'll go out and take pics of the the tranny and oil drain plugs and post them on there too when I can.

On the page it's already got:

"You'll find that the dipstick is extremely long because it has to get all the way down to the transmission, so it's not the easiest to push back down."

I'll add, "holding the top of the dipstick, push it back into the steel tube as far as you can (usually about halfway) and then grab the metal dipstick rod and force it the rest of the way. It's not easy, but persistence pays off."

That is a M-270 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) launcher firing a M-26 rocket. Each M-26 carries 644 M-77 submunitions. Read all about MLRS here MLRS was the last program I worked on before I retired from Lockheed Martin. MLRS started many years ago when the company was LTV. Loral bought the missiles division of LTV, Lockheed Martin bought Loral.

Now that has the makings of a unique mod and an interesting Tech Article! It sounds like getting stuck in traffic never needs to be a problem again
