hood not latching after hood protector installed

Has anyone had trouble latching the hood after installing an aftermarket bug shield. I attempted to install the shield last night; lined it up, drilled the holes, and fastened the included screws. The only problem I had was when I tried to close the hood it would not completely latch. The instructions state that I may have to adjust the hood lock mechanism to allow for the thickeness of the hood protector. I looked at the lock mechanism and it doesn't look like an easy task to adjust. Is this something that is easy to do or should I take it to the dealer to adjust? Thanks in advance for any help.

The hood latch mechanism is attached via some bolts...and IIRC the bracket has slots in it for adjustment.

Like the wabbit said it's attached by bolts, simply loosen the bolts on the latching mech behind the grill and move it up a bit. I have an 01 and I really can't rmember if the holes are slotted but there should be some adjustment. I have a Toyota hood protector and mine didn't need any adjustment.

dont remember on the toyota(havent looked under the hood much since i got her, checked the engine, it was there, that was about it)

you may have to lower the bump stops that probably sit in the neighborhood of the headlights. they are bolts with rubber tops.

raising the lock mechanism is going to lead to your hood not fitting "right". the extra thickness of the bug shield is causing it to hit the stops prematurely, not allowing it to lock.

nevermind, i correct myself... on my 98 there are fixed rubber bump stops, no adjustment of those. unsure of what you can do, short of move the latch.

MIne did make it fit very tight. I have to drop the hood from about 10 inches to get it to latch but it still releases fine.

I currently have an EGR bug shield on mine and I did not have to make any adjustments. I've also owned Toyota brand and other brand bug shields before on 4Rs w/o having this problem. But then again, I've also never had to drill holes in my hood. The one's I've owned fit into pre-existing holes in the hood.

What brand of bug shield do you have? May keep me from buying that one in the future.
