I would like to get a hood with a scoop someday. The 2000-2002 4Runner hoods fit on a 96' right? Has anybody ever found a hood with a scoop at a junk yard? I imagine this would be tough to find unless the runner was totalled from behind or the side.

Yes, it will fit 96-02. You will need the hood, plus the "bulge (over $100 from Toyota), plus a few other parts for the install. In all, the hood from toyota is about $300, then you have to buy about $150 worth of other stuff to complete it. I know where there is a "bulge" (i.e. - plastic insert for the hood) that is green and would save you some money, but the hood that it's on is trashed. If you were to find one at a junk yard, the only way you'll save money over getting a new one is if you can get one that is the same color as your 4Runner so you won't have to paint it. Anything else, and you'll be out just about as much as new parts + the labor to paint them.

If I do get a hood scoop I would want to buy the whole hood because mine has hail damage and needs to be replaced.

Wow! I think I'm gonna buy the carbon fiber one when i decide to do it. For $550 thats about what it would cost to get the one from Toyota after painting and assembling and all plus it looks awesome. Thanks for the link, don't know how I missed that post

I am sad to say I doubt that scoop really does anything at all.
I can't say for sure without testing it but I have serious doubts.

....and what is that stray fan pointed at the S/C for?
Don't tell me that is to cool down the incomming air.

I will give it to the guy the truck looks cool tho!

I agree there is no way that it works or helps I should say. Air running 3' through 1" pipe over the engine will not work. The small pipe probably restricts flow over that distance and after a few minutes the lines have to get hot, just adding hotter air into the intake.

I just figured that it would work. I don't need a CAI on mine...I gots a snorkel! I guess that's kinda like a CAI.

I'm actually working on a far better setup for my 4th gen. the hood comes in thurs, and I am running the air directly from the intake straight forward to the front of the block, connecting where the stock tube does. there is no way he gains more than 2 hp with that setup...though i do appreciate his attempt. the only trick is leaving enough clearance for the blower to go on in about a month. i'll get a post up asap once the work is done. the 4.7L actually allows a good opportunity for this to work succesfully. later.

I have to say thats neeto! I am sure it works well for cold air intake , but the air flow must be all messed up..

I have seen places which have them for $130 but I've heard that shipping is $100 or so. I am also wary of aftermarket body parts, I have seen way to many that don't fit right or are made cheap. Has anyody here ever purchased an aftermarket one?

If you guys check on EBay the VIS hood is now down to 420.00, that's not bad, it's just the shipping adds another chunk.
