Homelink install in 2000-2001 4Runner

Calling any Toyota tech's out there.....

I ordered a homelink unit for a customer, and there are no instructions with the unit. We are going to be installing this in a 2000 4Runner visor.

The kit comes with a homelink housing and a module that gets mounted INSIDE the visor. I checked all over the net, callled the company that makes it "Johnson controls" and it's usually only factory installed.

I can't get any info at all on installing this in a visor.

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

This unit was a feature on 2001 limiteds.

Black is ground. White is 12 volt. You'll need to punch 5 holes through the fabric. Three for the buttons, and two for the end latching pins. Do you need programming advice?

Ok, how do I get the black module in the visor? Remember, this is for a 2000 4Runner with no existing homelink.

I have the programming info, thanks.

Jason,

You would need to cut the fabric to insert Homelink inside the visor. I honestly dont' know if you'll be able to stich fabric back in order to make things look factory. It'll be a very delicate work.

Originally I also was thinking about Homelink for my '01 4Runner, but I ended up going with MUCH cheaper option. I mounted garage opener inside sunglasses holder with velcro tape. My 4Runner even came with several pins of different length in there in order to accomodate different remotes. The neat thing about the entire setup is that sunglasses still fit in there just fine!

Just an idea for you!

My sticky pad isn't really so sticky anymore, so my opener keeps falling off. woulda been nice to have homelink and be able to program in multiple openers or my other opener that doesn't fit into the overhead thing.

Jason B: was it possible to just order a 2001 LTD visor with the homelink already built in?

Industrial strength velcro from Home Depot or Lowes ($1.50 ~ $2.00) will keep remote in place.

Same here. My remote keep falling off and I hate it.

Jason: How much did you pay for it?

Thanks,

You either need to strip the current visor and get an exacto knife and start cutting up the foam to make a cavity for it and have it recovered or just order the driverside visor for an 01/02.

Thanks,
I sell them. I think my customer is going to install it in the headliner. This seems like a "much easier" approach and much easier install. Plenty of room.
