today i built a box for my cargo area for holding my gear. no more putting things in when i need them and no more sliding around, now the gear is always in there and it aint moving around.

used 3/8" plywood for oustide, 2"x2"s for supports, and 5/8" particle board for top shelf, about 6 hours of cutting, glueing, hamering, drilling.

drawers can be taken out.

box is all the way on the drivers side so the side storage area can still be used.

the top piece sits flush with drivers side "wall" but about 3" shy of passenger side, it removes with about 1/4" to spare.

box can be taken out in one piece: 1) remove drawers, 2) center box, 3) remove

box weighs in the 30lb range, lighter than i expected it to be.

I did mine the lazy man's way and piano hinged the 2 rear boxes and the 1 long one way in the back. Spent just over a hundred bucks. I work my touch up biz out of my truck and everything fits perfect. The whole thing slides out when I have to haul my sons drum kit.

I too got tired of hauling the Rubbermaid boxes back & forth for a trip.
It's a lot nicer having everything on tap when you need it fast.

 

Wow, lots of storage there. Is it secured to the floor at all?

 

nice job. I've had my box for just under a year now, and I don't know I lived without it. I carry a lot more mountain biking stuff than I do wheeling gear (because I bike more than I wheel), but even so... it's nice to have a place to put all my junk and not have to worry about it sliding/bouncing/banging around. I spent about $50 on mine (3 sheets of MDF, 1 box of drywall screws).

not secured, havent figured that out. although ive had no probs with it moving, there isnt much room for sliding within the cargo area.

 

Nice job. I keep my storage shelf in there most of the time now. These storage units really increase the funcitonality of the rear storage area.
