Post Holy Smoke! Guys, you HAVE to read this!

I got a flyer in the mail from my local Toyota dealer reminding me that my 120,000 mile check up is due soon. Right now I'm sitting on 117,643 miles. I called the service department to schedule this procedure. The "check up" includes a ton of things done to the vehicle. Now here's the kick in the pants --- Total cost for this check up is.......... $875.00 I couldn't belive it. The entire job takes 9 hours to complete. You guys think this maintenance service is really needed? HELP!

Do you have the list of what they are going to do? I bet that you can do much of it yourself.

yeah i was quoted on my 60k mile service. They want to charge me around $700.00. I'm not really what all is included in the charge. At least I have about 9k more miles to go

I'll bet it includes a valve adjustment. It is a real PITA to adjust the valves on the V6. May also include the timing belt...recomended every 60K.

Ask them for the itemized list of what they do.

I think that it is better to see the list and then we can see if it is worth it! See what you can do about that and then we will let you know...like we wouldn't do that anyways! :fireman:

That sounds about right. That's how much I payed. I think it includes everything from timing chain/belt replacement, to greasing the squeaky doors.

They do, do a lot of stuff.

I personally think it's a rip off in my opinion. Most of the service included in the package are not thoroughly performed. For example: Transmission Service (approx, $70.00) - In the work order, the tech should perform the following: Drain Fluid, remove pan, clean & inspect strainer, refill w/ Fluids (Includes ATM Gasket & Up to 5 quarts of fluid). Out of the things listed above the tech most likely will just change the fluid unless there is something wrong or you specifically wanted them to address the transmission separately. Really all depends on the tech working on your vehicle but my experience ended up challenging the service writer & the tech for not performing the services I've paid for. (I used to be a Tech 12 yrs ago) :pat:

90 k is rolling up quick on my Runner...Is there a site with info on what exactly stealers perform on these kinds of high mileage services? Or does someone who has done the 90k serv. have a readout of what they performed? I'm interested to find out exactly how neccesary they are and what I can do myself.

Thanks
- Nerf

this is where i take mine to. check the prices and the services for each service. I think the $875 quote is ridiculous. $289 sounds much better.

Outa Curiosity which of these things are worth having them done. Siting the page in the reply

4WD Change Transfer Case & Differential Fluids - $49.95

4WD Wheel Bearing Repack (where applicable) - $179.95

4-Cyl Screw Type Valve Adjustment - $69.95

I don't know but to me it kinda seems worth it cause I have no clue as to how to perform those jobs along with they sound kinda difficult
