I have done a search on this topic and I can't find a straight answer. I have 285/75's on my spare and its aired down to fit as is. I just don't wanna have an issue when I buy a hitch for my 4Runner. Let me know if you have and what brand/model #?

I'm not understanding what your asking? Are you asking what kind of hitch you need to be able to fit 285's under your vehicle?

 

IIRC, 285's will not fit with a hitch, even aired down. I read a thread a while back that asked the same question, but couldn't find it by searching. Maybe someone else with that setup can chime in.

Correct!! I just put 285's on my truck and on the spare tire, I had to air down the spare to fit......I was wondering which hitch would fit with that spare tire there.

I dont beleive any hitch will fit there with that spare under there....and what good is an aired down spare, BTW?

I carry a small compressor on the 4Runner that I borrow from the Vette since the Vette don't have a spare.

 

I can just barely squeeze a 265/75R16 in with my hitch, which is the curved Hidden Hitch one. There's no way a 285 would fit.

 

Ditto here! I could barely get mine in there as is stock.

 

Time to get a custom rear bumper with integrated receiver.

 

Factory Reese hitch and 285 Dayton Timberline roller as a spare and it fits aired up.

 

Factory hitch from 97. I've got a 285 BFG stuffed up underneath there. Tight fit, but its in.

 

What would be the same in an aftermarket>>???

If your looking for a hitch, I would suggest placing an add on Craigslist. You can pretty much find anything you want on there.

 

put it on your roof. get a cbi tire carrier. mount it on the inside like a jeep cherokee

 

putting it on the roof means raising the center of gravity. also, you have to chuck a heavy tire and wheel on top of your roof, and then pull it off again when you need it.

putting it in the rear cargo area is a much better idea. i personally like rear bumpers with swing out mounts, and thats what ill be doing. honestly, mount it in the rear. find a 1st gen roll bar and modify it to fit, and attach the tire to it.

 

This is that I will be doing in my Taco, It will be the first 1st gen rollbar I've seen in a Taco.

 

If you look around YT, most of the people that have done that have decided it wasn't such a good idea afterall, and take it off.


For a stock hitch, check CL or the junkyard. They aren't rare.
