thanks for the pic mertztr. so do i not screw anything on to the antenna side at all?. also, how do i know which wire to run to a ground and which to run to the antenna?

Ahh yes, which wire is which? That just hit me a sec ago. I did not need to open up my coax, so I'm not sure how the wires are colored. Corey should be able to answer that though.

As far as the other part of the question, open up Corey's page again. The antenna is out of view, but it screws in to the top of the spring (in his setup). If you don't have a spring, then yours would screw in to the part where Corey's spring is shown meeting the piece with the hex sides.

That piece with the hex sides on it: its basically just a junction piece with two female threaded ends. The top is where you would screw in the antenna or spring.
So then, from the black antenna mount going up should be a plastic washer, then the coax ring connector, then the hex piece.

Then on the underside of the mount, is another plastic washer, followed by the antenna bolt. The bolt passes up through all that stuff and threads in to the bottom of that hex piece, sandwiching everything all together.

Yep, I have it. That's probably why my install was so simple. The ground and everything for the coax is all self-contained, you just throw it on the mount and away you go.

on my coax cable, it has a fitting that screws into the antenna mount (like how it screws into the back of the cb). when i had it on my roof, i just screwed it on, and i was good to go. when i cut opent he coax sheath, would i not have to screw that part on anymore ?

 

On coax TYPICALLY, the center wire is the signal and the shielding is the ground.
