Quasi group buy on I/O thermometers
Hi all;
There's a group buy going on that's a bit buried in another thread.
The short form is that a few folks are interested in adding a inside/outside thermometer to their rig, and JC Whitney has an okay selection at okay prices, but they want a lot for "shipping" charges. So, we're starting a small "group buy" of sorts to spread out the shipping charges. One person will front the buy, everyone splits the base shipping charge, then each person is charged the _real_ USPS postage for shipping them their item.
The original thread is here, and includes a link to the JCW page:

Please respond there so that we can keep all of this together in one spot.
Thanks!
Mark

Hi all;
I'm bumping this again because we're coming down to the cut-off date and I'm looking for a real head-count.
A recap...
A couple of people are looking to add outside thermometers to their rigs. JC Whitney has a decent selection, but what they charge for shipping is _more_ than the product in some cases. Considering that these weigh less than a pound each, that seems silly.
Cody (CTB) and I came up with the concept of ordering a couple of these from JCW, splitting the cost of shipping, then paying for the real USPS costs to re-ship in a padded envelope from one of our houses to the other. That actually works out cheaper.
We got to thinkin' that the more people we get on the buy-in, the cheaper the shipping gets. So, we posted that idea up in another thread and got a couple of votes of interest.
I've become the point-dude on this, so please shoot any questions to me here in a PM or to my email address: mark@midiwall.com
I'd like to place an order on Thursday of this coming week (4/24). Before that time, I need to hear from the folks that have expressed interest in being a part of this, and know which thermometer you'd like to order. The list is here:
http://www.jcwhitney.com/catsubpic.j...cw2&sort=price
To date, I've seen interest from five folks: Tacoma Dude, DuB, CTB, FunRunner and myself. This is great, but the more the merrier!
So, the steps are:
Thanks all!

So, the steps are:
- Go to the JCW site at the link above and pick a thermometer.
- Drop me a line to let me know which you'd like. I'll also need your snail address.
- I will place an order for all of them on Thursday (4/24) morning. I'm fronting the total value of the "group buy".
- Your cost will be the cost of the thermometer, PLUS your even share of the JCW shipping charge (e.g., if it's $10 and 5 people order, then that'd be $2), PLUS the straight USPS first class postage for a padded envelope under one pound (which is under $2.50 going cross-country). I won't charge for the envelope.
- Once the themometers show up here, I will turn them around to you within a day.
- Since I won't know the real postage until I send them out, I will drop each of your a PM or email on the day that they hit the mail back to you. If you can send me a check at that time, that'd be awesome. Personal check or paypal is fine, please don't go through the trouble of getting a money order.
Thanks all!
Mark

I thought you guys were gonna get kerrs to get some? I've been emailing him and working out the details. The ones he posted look cleaner than the jc whitney ones.

No offense to Kerrs..
The cheaper one works out to about US $21, with the more expensive one being US $28 (including VAT and postage).
Personally, I like the looks of the more expensive one, but I don't want the clock. So that's basically the $20 unit from JCW. If we do the group thing and split shipping, then it ends up being just a hair more than the cheaper one that Kerrs is showing, plus I gain a US address to return it to if there's any DOA issue.
It's all just personal preference.

Okay, this is the last bump, I promise.
Interest in this is pretty low, so I'm going to do the ordering tomorrow (Wednesday 4/23) around noon pacific.
I have info and item numbers from Tacoma Dude, Bumpin' Yota, CTB, FunRunner and myself.
If there's anyone else, please drop me a PM or an email (mark@midiwall.com).
I'll confirm with everyone once I have the specific order info.
Thanks!
