High pitched noise from brakes on 03'

Anyone get a high pitched noise from their brakes on the 03's? I hvae only noticed it twice

first time: Was after an ice storm in NY, my entire car was covered in a thick layer of ice. I drove home to NJ, about 200 miles. This was a couple of hours later, but i was backing up, and i heard this really high pitched noise when i applied the brakes.

second time: A couple hours after i washed my car, i was backing it off the lawn and i heard the same noise.

Anyone have this, or any idea what it might be. I am taking it in for an oil change once i get back to NJ next week, so ill probably have them look at it then.

I've had the car wash experience. It's normal. Oxidation (rust) forms on the iron rotors during a hand wash. It's removed at the first brake application, making the noise you described. I don't know about your ice experience, could've been a chunk of ice somewhere in the brake system that broke off or melted. I wouldn't be too concerned.

same sound

I have the same shriek sound too when I am backing up and then stopping before I pulled out from my driveway, but I thought it was just with new brakes. Sometimes I get it after getting back from the gravel roads, the sand and mud gets around the brakes, and a few days later the noise is gone.

I think BT17R is right... It shouldn't be a problem at all. If you're concerned, then you should remove one of the tires and see if there are any abnormal wear to the disc itself. But I wouldn't worry about it as it's something everyone has pretty much experienced.

If you experience this on a regular basis, then I'd say that's something you want to have checked but in this case, I don't think you have to worry..

Re: same sound

For the after-wash noise, I've seen this on other vehicles with 4-wheel discs, and it has never been a mechanical issue. Annoying as it can be, but even our mechanic checked out the old Concorde (had it really bad) and said it was nothing to worry about.
