high idle

when i come to a stop sometimes the idle is very high. i have to give it a good rev for it to come down. im thinking its the spring on the throttle body or the dashpot. how hard is to change the spring?

I don't think it's either. I'd clean your t-body real good and add some lube to your acc cable. Take your TPS off & clean it out, put it back on and respec it, you should have no probs after this. Did your High idle start after your custom intake? What does your truck normally idle at?

Good Luck!

Check the linkages (lube everything with WD40) and the throttle body (clean that with carb cleaner and an old toothbrush)

My dad's truck did the same thing. I lubed the linkage and cable, and it hasn't done it again.

Could be the return spring if it is very rusted or has seen too many cycles, but I have also seen a worn throttle body stick too......you might try some WD40 on the butterfly valve and on the attaching linkage (ie where the butterfly pivots). Try moving the linkage from side to side and if there is any excessive movement it may need replacement....or you just live with it as is. When you open the throttle it should snap back with decent force after letting go. Also have someone step on the gas while you pull on the cable to ensure the cable is not binding somewhere.

Mine is doing the same thing.I have cleaned the tb,lubed up the linkage and cables and it will idle at about 15-1700 until I tap the gas, then it will come back down.I can also turn the throttle back at the tb to get it to come back down.I am thinking it's the spring too.Doesn't feel like there is a whole lot of return left in it.
