brand isnt really important unless you really do care. If you just want cheap ones that work good, just look for what country manufactures it. Try to stick with german and japanese companies. Those work great and there are some for really cheap.
However if you do want brand, theres two that rise to the top of HID's and those are either the Philips or McCulloch's. Those two offer the best and brightest HID's on the market. They do however come with a hefty price tag. Somewhere from 300-500 dollars for a set.

I was thinking about picking one up myself, considering Raybrig H4 halogen bulbs cost nearly $100 a pair. Also, I would think that if you added one of these cheap HID kits to an aftermarket driving lamp, like Hella 500s or IPF 968s, you would get some real nice results because of the simple, symmetrical housing.

Very new to all this but here is my .02. It would seem that the "stray light" issue is mostly just because of the brighter bulb output. I don't think the light is "stray" at all because the reflectors (for 3rd gens) have not been changed. I would think the direction of the light leaving the reflector is the same as it was before changing your bulbs from stock to Silverstars,HID's or whatever.

i'm not intimate w/ 97's but having done several hid swaps in diff applications its been my exp that hid bulbs perform best in projector housings, otherwise its just kinda of a waste as far as seeing better..... lots of useless white unfocused light. i guess you do get "cool" factor though....... basically hid bulbs perform the best in housing that have been designed for hid bulbs. (most cars with hid have projectors, i think the older acura tl's being the exception but you can also spot them on the road for that reason).

After doing the conversion i can say that this is right.
It is a the same beam pattern just more light on the road. it works great and i do't have a problem with them. They are a little brighter to other drivers but so are silverstars...
