Hey guys, I had some ?'s about Hi-lifts...

1. What is a good price, and where have you gotten them?
2. How often have you really used them?
3. Will the bumper lift work on our rigs? (or at least my 3rd gen)

2. how many times have you used your airbags? I haven't used mine much, but then I haven't done anything too hardcore yet.
3. It will, but then you won't have a pretty bumper afterwards.

Ditto everything above.

I got my 60" hi-lift for about $65 shipped. You'll use it more often if your rig is lifted because the stock bottle jack has a hard time reaching lifted frames. I use mine all the time when I'm working on my rig, even if it's just rotating tires.

I actually have used my off road once or twice. A couple of weeks ago, I got stuck in the snow (about 2' of it)... I used the hi-lift so I could put some small trees/branches under my tires for traction.

I'm also looking into buying some gear that will allow me to use my hi-lift as a come-along. There have been a few occasions where I wished I had a come-along. Rather than buying another piece of equipment, I'm going to convert my hi-lift to a come along.

Like Steve said - you really see it's value when you need it to get out of a jam... then it's worth it's weight in gold.

 

les schwebs hasthem at least out here in oregon they have them , and if i remeebr right they were about 50 to 60 bucks , i like is versatility and plan on getting one soon , winch jack , its a positive tool to carry with you , i have a gps wit hme , i dont use it much but whe nthe time comes to need it ill be glad i have it , same goes for the hi lift jack . if you have the extra cash and a place to store it , why not have one .

Reiterating part of the question I'm interested in...

I've got a stock 3rd gen. I get the feeling there's no
where on there to use a high lift w/o (minor) damage?

(Though a small price to pay... I *want* to damage my
bumpers so I have a good excuse to replace them! )

Oh, and can someone do something to *force* me to
get some 'sliders?

Gee... I tried to high lift off my running boards, and *pop*!

oh, gotcha... sorry, I misunderstood your post. On a stock rig, a trailer hitch is the best place to use the hi-lift, but that only gets the butt of the rig off the gound. I've used a hi-lift with my trailer hitch a few times.

Yes, you can most definitely use the hi-lift on your front bumper . I've never used mine on the rear bumper (I use it with my trailer hitch), but I would guess the rear bumper would be fine as well . I've also heard people using their hi-lift on running boards , but never on bare rocker panels.

I just wasn't sure how often it actually got used, and didn't want to pay for 30 pounds of unused metal!

This place has all kind of stuff/good prices just make sure you shop for qualitiy as they have the good/bad and ugly all mixed into on.

Corey, have you run across any ways to use it as a come along without having to use chains? I'm just hoping to avoid chains as much as possible for safty reasons.

 

No I have not.
Even with a chain setup like Dandeman's, it's still going to be a PITA to move a SUV.
That is why I bought a winch
Makes it so much easier.

My Hi-Lift is only for raising the rig if it needs to be for a flat tire, or if I get high centered on something.
