She knows that I really like modding and tries to be supportive. I agree with Christian, we're sticking to a budget too, and if I'm up front with her, she's usually OK with it.

My girlfriend just smiles and nods and says "thats nice dear" when I get all excited about the new TRD stickers I put on, or give me a hard time about my "nerf bars." We've been together for about a year, we each spend our own money on whatever we want. I still pay alll of my bills on time, so there is no complaints from her end. I do feel guilty sometimes about not wanting to go out and drop 100 bucks on a nice meal with her, but will spend 600 dollars on a front bumper. My apt. still looks like a college apt- a fouton instead of a couch, etc, but hey, I spend money on the things that I enjoy, and am cheap on the things that I don't need as much- ie. trendy clothes, going out and spending a ton of money on booze, clubs, etc.

I hear that! I also feel a bit of guilt when I spend money on the rig instead of Sarah, but it just takes one trip to the mall to make her feel better, and to ease my conscience!

Isn't it amazing how that is the cure-all?

I think its funny that I can totally rationalize spending $1500 on gears and a locker and imagine what Id be thinking if my girlfriend told me that she went to the mall and spent $1500 on clothes and make-up?

I compare my love of wheelin' and the mods associated with it to her love of shoes and the 100+ pairs sitting in the closet that are added to weekly.

But I too sell toys to get toys. And we have totally separate expenses. I pay for all of the house, Runner, Ins, bills and she pays her credit cards and daycare. It works for me.

I usually just slap a shirt on like the one Ron is wearing and throw a couple upper cuts her way and she starts agreeing really quick like that I need stuff for the truck:

I was thinking that was a shirt that you got drunk and puked all over but kept wearing it anyway.

I used to just break thinks so I could buy something else.

"The turbo stopped working, the dealer wants $900 for a new one - but I can get an aftermarket one for $800!!"

That kind of thing.

I like what my dad does. Since he moved to Canada my step-mom has no idea what the dollar is worth. He just bought a Hummer H2 (I know, I know...) and it was $90,000 Canadian, he told her that was about $30,000 US... She has no idea.

Yes but the stuff for the Yota would stay in fashion a lot longer and you'd certainly get more use from it

Cheers

yes, I have to agree. the makeup usually ends up running down their face and smudged on your shirt or front of your pants and her new clothes usually get balled up and sit either on the floorboard of the runner or the foot of the bed anyway.

Cool

Here is the skinny as far as I’m concerned. I goto work and that’s not a choice she is able to make. So when I get ready to dress up my runner her voice resembles that of Charlie Brown’s teacher ‘Waaa wa wa waaa, Wa wa…’

My girlfriend says that I have obessive compulsive disorder and I'm starting to think she's right. She did tell me that she had a cure for it...... I asked her what and she said "Buy me Stuff!!!!"

I have a system that seems to be working pretty good. It works very well for flyfishing gear, motorcycle acessories, and also truck acessories...

You just collect so much stuff that she doesn't know when you add something to the collection.

Picture this. You have a dumptruck full of rocks. If you throw another handfull of rocks onto the truck, do you really notice the difference?

When all else fails, lie.

I guess I'm lucky - my wife is 100% ok with mods. Usually the only arguement we have is which mod will be next. She had my sliders custom built for me as a surprise gift... Now that's a good woman! Just wish we had the money to do all the mods we both want.

I guess I'm pretty lucky. My GF likes 4Runner's now and the mods that go along with them. Although my modding has slowed down (money is going to the house we live in and to my other hobby [home defense....one that I know AzToy would appreciate]), nothing warms my heart when we pass a 2nd Gen w/ a Saggy A$$ and the GF says "that 4R needs some rear springs and to lose the Running Boards". I think I'll keep this one

This is pretty good timing. My wife and I have been budgeting since March, and have been trying to get on track since before that. Like most of you, mod money is not really included in the budget. In our budget though, we would include some small amount of spending money every month for each of us (about $50 each-- not much, but it's a start). Up to this point, we haven't been able to take that out, but now we are to the point where we can start doing it. We both work, so she felt like she should be able to spend some money-- she has a need to, she says. I handle the budget, so the other day I gave her the $50, and she was all excited. Then I proceeded to tell her that I need a new exhaust and now would be the time to do it. At almost $450, that's a big difference in spending money! So I told her that I've lived with it being loud and leaky for over 6 months, and I NEED to get it done.

Guess what I'm getting Thursday?

Like everyone else I am on a budget. I work 2 jobs & the wife stays home with our son and will be for a while, she's due again in Dec. I can't even get money for things that are broken out of her, let alone money for "upgrades". Her philo. is if it still runs then it ain't broke and you don't need it. Boy is that fustrating!!!! I can't wait till she goes back to work in 5 years, I will be a spending fool.
