.....getting cooler by the day. I'm actually getting jazzed about the colder weather on the way. I'm kinda tired of shorts and sandals. Anybody else looking forward to snow? This is the first winter for me and my 4Runner. Can't wait to put 'er in 4WD on a blizzard type day when I get up to go to work and wave and honk at all the 2 wheelers stuck in the snow.
When I get home in the evening, I'll sit next to the fireplace, pour myself a bourbon on the rocks, (maybe a few) watch the snow fall, and ------

I'm With Ya
While we don't get much snow in the Seattle area, I do enjoy the cooler weather. In fact, I think fall is my fav time of year. Sunny days, cooler nights. I always sleep better when it's cold outside. In the winter if we want to play in the snow, we don't have far to go. Mountain pass areas very close. I also enjoy sitting near our stove, and just watching the rain.
Enjoy the fire and refreshments!

Whitey,
When I first moved out here in 94' I too looked forward to the winters... but I am now all about the Fall and spring
You should of been here for the blizzard in '97 I think?? We got like 35" of the powder over night!!! It was totally freaky the next day, like the day after a nuclear war or somethin. Cars ditched everywhere on the sides of the road, people Xcross skiing in the rodes, snowmobiles, snowshoes.
I dusted off the '89 4runner and went out for a spin
I was the only one out it seemed
Trusty 4runner got me thru the deepest snow, it was a blast!!

I love it when it dumps a big snow on us. If I have time I like to go around and pull cars out of snowbanks. Also Its fun to go up the back way (highways 24 and 9) to Breckenridge or Keystone ski areas to ride the fresh powder while everyone else is stuck in traffic on I-70.
Last year there was open entry racing on the frozen reservoir in Georgetown. Every Sunday from December through February you can race against other bare rubber 4x4s on the ice for $10(no studed tires allowed). That's where I first met some of the Outdoorwire guys like Sherpa4Runner (now a good friend) and Jeff the Marmot. My 3rd time on the lake I got 4th place out of about 75 entrants. Oh man, i'm all excited now! Let the flakes fly!!

Yep, I'm diggin the cooler weather.
How about the snow storm last April. I was all jazzed about not having to go to work until I got up the next morning and the streets in Lakewood were just wet. Drove to work (Douglas County) and the further east I went on C-470, the harder it was snowing. Just east of Santa Fe on C-470, I watched a Saturn take a digger on the center median. No damage, lucky for him/her, probably a little rattled though.
It took my two and a half hours to get to work. University at C-470 hadn't been plowed yet at 6:00am. I was the second vehicle to make tracks. A Jeep Cherokee in front of me stopped, dug in, and sat there. Funny, I had no problem getting going again.
Lincoln Ave at I-25 turned into a parking lot because of a stuck Mustang and RTD bus. It took me 45 minutes to go 1 mile.
At my turn (Oswego), I found no less the 12 cars ditched. I had to go up onto the grass median, into the oncoming lane (no one was there, everyone was stuck further down) and back over.
A Dodge Ram had stopped to help a lady in a Honda Civic. She was up to her hood in snow. Seeing it was a co-worker, I got out to help and was met by a 50 mph gust of wind. The Honda, just 30 feet or so in front of me, dissappeared. When the wind died down enough, I helped the Dodge driver hook a chain under the Honda. She agreed that should would not be able to get her car to work or back home until either later that evening or the next day. So we pulled her car out of the way. The Dodge had a hard time with this because her car was trying to pull on the snow with her.
When I got to work, no one in my department ws there.
Seeing an oppurtunity, I went out the back stairs and out the door making sure not to be spotted by any floor managers. I played in the snow the rest of the day.
By mid-afternoon, most of it has been cleared or had melted. Out of 1700 people, only ~200 made it to work. They closed the building 30 minutes after I left.
Went home, changed into dry clothes, and went to visit my grandparents.

You guys are killin' me and making me home sick! I grew up in Grand Junction and dream of returning to Colorado almost daily. I am hoping to be able to relocate to the Colorado Springs area in the next 3-5 years.
Oh, the snow. My grandparents own a ranch up on the Colorado National Monument. We used to do some moderate 4-wheelin' up there, but the most fun was to be had on snow mobiles. Barbwire fences were nothing to worry about because the snow was deep enough you could just fly right over them. If you were silly enough to slow down you were in big trouble, because you would just sink in that powder, and getting out was always a lot of fun:eek:
Anyway, Colorado is still where my heart is. I have been in Washington for 16 years now, and still don't feel comfortable! I spent one wonderful year in eastern Washington, which was a lot more like home, but then got pulled back to the west side for work.
I know there are a lot of Washingtonians here too, and I am not bashing Washington at all. I am just Colorado to the core, Washington is just a little too 'progressive' for me!

Scott, I know the feeling! I moved from Colorado to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for 3 years when I leased my brand new 2000 4Runner. Man, you talk about feeling out of place. Nothing but Mercedes', BMW's, Jag's, etc. And when I did see an SUV, which was OFTEN, every one of them were 2 Wheel Drive units! The closest thing to even "feeling" like I was actually "using" my 4Runner's capabilities is when we would make a weekend run to Key West. But then again, there was NEVER a reason to put 'er into 4 Wheel Drive. It was smooth roads all the way down. Lots of times I was hoping for a hurricane so I could at least get out and get around while everyone else was stuck. But it never happened.
Alas, I moved back to my home in Colorado... up near Estes Park. Damn it's nice to be home again. MOUNTAINS right outside my front door! Rivers, creeks, 4 Wheeling galore!!! Anybody else in here from Colorado? Maybe we can hook up some weekend and crawl all over each other's rigs checking them out! As always, I'm buying the drinks!

Yeah, I too am getting tired of the shorts and t-shirt look. I wanna put on some AE jeans and shirts and see if any girls come. They are not now, so this is my last resort. I like summer the most, but it seems as if there is alot more to do in the fall! Can't wait to see the 4WD work in the snow too! YEAH! :fireman:
