Let her roll

I would personally either get the motor checked out or sell it. I would hate the second option, because what goes around comes around. However, I had the same problem with my 4Runner and I ended up having me engine rebuilt. Do you hear valves ticking when the white smoke it coming out. Is it like the white smoke of an tractor trailer truck? I bet ur rings are bad or u have a very bad valve seal leak or messed up valve. My smoke was white also, but it had a hint of blue and I was burning oil. Sometimes oil will burn white. Anyway, get it checked out. If u decide not to trade it, get a used motor for about 1200 - 1900. Don't rebuild unless the rebuilder is a REALLY good machinist. Good luck and my god bless

Mattk, being a 98 with less than 100K miles it is a perfect time to sell/trade this baby in and get a new vehicle. I would suggest you trade it ASAP!!!

Based on all of the news about oil problems now and in the future you might want to look for one of though high mileage diesel electric cars

This is a 3rd gen 3.4. Ok a new update........Went camping this weekend and just got back today. I do pull a camping trailer but after i got home and let the Runner sit most of the day i decided to check the fluids. Coolant is right where it has been and the oil was about a quart low.....not a good sign! Ive been watching the fluids pretty closely for a couple of weeks now and this is the first time the oil has been low and it is low from juast over the weekend. I checked it Friday before i left for camping and it was good. Today it is a quart low.

I sure like my new 4th generation V8, sounds like you need to take that baby to the dealer and work a trade. I would love to trade a truck with a problem to a dealer, would make me feel so warm and fuzzy . Mine are alway perfect and I just get tired bored and trade for a new ride.

So it's burning oil after it sits, have someone ride behind you to see if your exhaust is puffing out blueish smoke
