I am changing my front O2 sensor this morning and it should be a straightforward job - the only thing is I have NO access to the wiring harness as it rests abovce my transmission somewhere.

In bobs writeup the sensor (edit:harness) is clearly visible:


I cant even come close to seeing my harness - I have a taco so it is probably a bit different? Anyways the wire goes up to the top of the tranny and I can just barely feel what I think is the harness if I strech - even if I manage to pull the o2 out of the harness I wont be able to plug the new one back in...

Am I going to have to go throught the shifter in the cab? thats the only other way I can think of....anyone know how I would go about doing this?

I couldn't really see mine when I changed it either. Its just a standard clip though, can probably feel your way through it if you take your time.

 

Thats the thing - its not not being able to see it that is the problem; but not being able to feel it either...

I can just barely squeeze my hand up far enough to feel what appears to be the very end of where the sensor meets the harness - I definetly cannot reach the clip or the harness as far as I can tell -I have repeatedly tired jamming my hand up there to no avail.

 

get a pocket mirror and see if that helps.

I had the same problome. Its being held on by a mountuing clip. Force/ remove the harness off the mounting point, and then it should be easy as cake

 

Right - Kahuna, thats kind of what I figured I had to do - how do you dislodge it? did you just bend the crap out of the mount until it broke?(I wonder how the damn dealership mechanics do it?)

afterwards did you just leave the wire hanging there?

this thing is really a PIA - I dont understand why toyota has to put the harness in the SINGLE most difficult spot to reach in the entire path of the sensor wiring

 

It is awkward to undo the clip for the connector.
There is no problem to break it from its mounting if you need to but make sure to zip tie it up after.
....you don't want it resting on the exhaust later.

 

Well - basically wrenched the harness free from that clip and everything is back together - I didnt zip tie the wire jamie but it seems that it should be ok and wont fall down onto the exhaust as it is tied off above the tranny somewhere...
