Unhappy HELP!!! I can't shift into 4 wheel drive

Last night it snowed pretty heavy here. So on my way to town I tried to shift into 4 wheel drive..... and nothing!?! There was no light on the dash and it definately had no power to the front wheels. It was quite icey and the rear end would kick out with ease. I pulled over and tried shifting into low and still nothing. I tried shifting in and out of 4 high and 4 low in all of the gears too and it did not make any difference. Has anyone had a similar problem or does anyone have any ideas on what could cause it.
Thank you

i think a common problem with the ADD on toyotas (which i asume you have on your truck) is a vaccum leak which wont allow the front end to engage properly.

try a search and see what you get for answers.

yeah it is most likely what Averysdad said. There are plenty of posts on this.
good luck, driving with only rearwheel traction is a bit scary in the snow.

did you try it in park as well? That was my problem, for some reason I just can't shift on the fly anymore. Shift to park, shift to 4-hi, then put it into drive.

If that doesn't work, then I would have to agree with the vacuum hose theory.
