Help with 98 4runner pricing please!
I ran across a low mileage 4runner. 27500 miles and it is a 1998 model. Appears to have never been wrecked, very clean inside and out.
It is a base model, one of those where about the only option when nbought new was a/c. Well it does have power windows and locks, but pretty much frill-less after that. It is a 4cyl 5 speed, 2wd model.
They place selling it is asking for a bit over 14 grand. NADA and KBB says the HIGH retail should be at the very HIGHEST 10 grand. KBB actually calls for less, but I know NADA is usually a better marker than kbb, anyway what do you guys think?
Oh and there has been zero mods done to this, so they haven't jacked up the price because of suspension upgrades, wheels, stereo, ...etc. This truck is just as Yota made it.

Thats more in line of what I was thinking. I actually want the rig because it's so unmolested, but I'm not going to get ripped for it.

It has had to sit for long periods of time and I would like to know why before I buy.

Yeah have ti checked out before you buy it for sure.
I just got my 2000 4runner limited with EVERY option (except the locker, darn it!) for $9,600. It has just over 100k and was a 1 owner. So for a base 98 i would 8k like was said above but personally i would not pay more than 7K when i can get one like mine for $9,600.

Oh, yeah. in fact most of them are 2wd. I should know when i was looking for a 4wd it took me forever to find one like i wanted. now the 4cyl is a little more rare but there are still plenty of them out there.

I wouldnt pay that much for a 2wd 4 banger. These trucks are so reliable, mileage was one of the last criteria on my list while shopping. Might just be me, but I'd rather have a 4wd v6 with 100k than a 2wd 4cyl with 20k....

TOTALLY ditto that! That is exactly why i waited for the truck i got. I knew i could find a good deal on a loaded model. My mechanic has a 96 just like mine, (fully loaded limited) and he has put over 340,000 miles on it with no major problems at all. So mileage was not an issue at all for me.

I kind of feel the same way actually. Although I like the fact that this one hasn't been messed with, but no way am I going to pay nearly double the value.

I just picked up an orginal owner 98 4Runner 5Speed v6 4x4 with 195,000 miles for $5,000. Pretty stoked. High miles but it was well maintained. Its also a huge upgrade from my 1986 22re 4Runner. Tons more guts.
14 grand sounds too high and I would definently look into why its been sitting.

i too just picked up another 4runner - 98 4x4 v6 5spd sunroof leather 120k miles for $7,250.00 They're hard as hell to find a good one. Just curious, why would you want a 2wd 4cyl 4runner - that should be a crime. unless of course you were planning a build of some kind....

I want a rig that I could play in the mud, but right now I am looking at a new career and I wouldn't have the time to wheel anyway.

I went and looked at it today and they are insane. This thing looks like a theft recovery that went through a hail storm. The center peice of the steering wheel is missing so no airbag, the stereo has been ripped out, body damage on both driver and passenger side, AND the hood has some nice shiners.
I didn't even see the need to open the doors and look at it thoroughly on the inside. They are asking 4 grand over what a 98 4runner in showorrom condition should go for and this thing needs a few grand in repairs that is visible without even having a mechanic look at it.

You should look at the Title to see if the milage has been tampered with. Also look to see how worn out the seats and the gas and brake pedels are. At 27K the seats and pedels should show little signs of wear. 27K just sound too low for a 98.

I've seen something like that on Craigslist PHX for around 5500 if i remember correctly. Besides, resale sucks on a 2wd 4cyl.
Sounds like it wasn't all that anyway. Enjoy the hunt!

Nah, I'm totally not interested in the rig now. I really wanted a 4WD anyway, but figured if this truck was as clean as they advertised, and if they would come down to a reasonable price, then I should get it. Unfortunately this one is just a headache waiting to happen. If they could prove tome that the mileage was accurate and they would let it go for 4 grand then I would buy it and have the body damage fixed, but I don't see a shady used car lot coming 10 grand off their asking price.
