Headers?
#1
I have a '89 toyota 4-runner. I recently purchased (for $500)a '89 toyota 4x4 pickup with the 3.0 V6 that had been rolled and only had 70k on it, so I swapped everything out. Running awesome so far.
Have a few Q's though?
Are the headers for this engine worth the effort of purchase and installing?
I also noticed that from '89 to '91 the same stock engines are putting out more toque and more HP any Ideas on what they changed (Cam/ECU)?
Any knowledge on these topics or the best way to get a little more out of the engine would be greatly apreciated.
Has any one found a fix for the loss of power from 3500 rpm's and higher?

From everything I have read headers make a considerable difference in the V-6. I have no personal experience though. I do know of a buddy that had headers and regeared to run 33's and his 3.0 had some Balls!!

That picture looks like Adam F's Runner towing half a truck!
For the 3.0 V6, headers would be good like Myers said (get a shop to do them though they are a pain from what I hear)
Throttle body does help and I wish I would have done that mod instead of the K&N filter kit. try Doa racing engines they do have cams and crankshafts but I don't recall if it is for a V6 or not.
Gears are also a good idea if you put on bigger meats. For 31" make sure you have at least 4.88. If 33" I would go 5.29's
Cheapest is a new cat-back system, although I also included a high flow cat on my old 4Runner.
Not really too much else you can do. I didn't get a chance to change the ignition to say a Jacobs or even better an MSD, but according to others they do help.
