Hey everybody,

Well I just installed a new alpine head unit today and am having some trouble with the antenna reception. My stock headunit was the 2din size cd/cassete/radio combo in a 99' Limited. Now, I used the correct harnesses, got rid of the stock amplifier, and got everything hooked up correctly. However, I am getting very little radio reception, and it is very poor in most all areas. My question is, is on the back of the stock headunit, there is two black wires with plugs that plug into it, in addition to the harness. Is one of those a wire for the antenna? When I talked to an installer a while back, he said just disconnect them and leave them alone. So, what are they for? And is one of them the antenna lead? Thanks for any help. Peace.

I looked at that article, but It doens't answer my question. He does a good job of talking about the wiring as far as the harness goes, but I am wondering about two completely separate cables that I am not sure what they go to. Thanks though, with the search feature being down I just figured I'd ask and see if somebody could help. Peace.

The two connectors separate from the harness are for the power antenna and the diversity antenna. You need to have at least one hooked up. The alpine should have a female receptacle that fits one of the plugs (the larger of the two). That is for the power antenna.

As for hooking up the diversity antenna, there was a thread a couple weeks ago of someone looking for an adapter that would let him hook up both the diversity antenna and the power antenna. I don't know if he managed to do it or not. . .

Are you connected to the antenna at all?
You definately need to be connected to one to get any reception.

 

Get Sirius Satellite radio and forget about FM. You won't ever look back and regret it. You'll get excellent reception with CD quality sound.

P.S. I just bought 1000 shares of this stock so I gotta spread the word. But "Siriusly" I love my satellite radio.

 

Yeah one of those two wires was definetley your atenna wire. Pull it back out and connect it and you should be good to go.

 

Why is Sirius better than XM?

 

Because he has 1000 shares of it!

 

I personally like the programming better than XM. The biggest plus is that Sirius is 100% commercial free. 30% of XM's programming contains commercials. It also has exclusive rights to NHL, NBA, and 7 years of the NFL.

 

Sirius is true satellite radio...its pretty much the same as listening to the music channels on DirecTV or other satellite providers...nonstop music! I'm gettin ready to get one myself!
