have i killed my engine?

As I am driving around yesterday I see that my oil pressure is running at almost nothing. At the end of the day I go to check the oil and see that it is almost empty. i put two quarts in and I am going to try and get to a garage sometime today but, have I done terrible damage to my engine? i have not noticed any oil leaks below the vehicle but there did appear to be some oil on the suspension components under the passenger side wheel well. What do you all think?

It sounds as if you have an oil leak of some kind. I am not a mechanic, or even close, but I would definitely go to a very good one and get it looked at. I don't know of the damage, if any, that could have been done. Let's just hope there is not any. Goodluck. :fireman:

First, when is the last time that you checked your oil level? I ask that because, my '91 V6 Runner uses a little oil (1 qt of synthetic oil) over several thousand miles......I have 160,000 on the motor. I too have run the level low....about 2 qts needed to be added. I just drained the old oil out, changed the filter, and added fresh oil. I have seen no resulting damage or drop in performance. Did I shave life off of my motor? Probably.....instead of getting 300,000 miles out it, I'll probably only get 299,999 miles!

Just try to check your oil frequently.....and don't let it happen AGAIN!!!!!

Running the oil low is probably the worst thing you can do for an engine but your probably alright. Depends how long you drove it like that.

Do you have the v6? It seems odd that there would be oil on the passenger side suspension, the oil filter is on the driver's side, but even then it wouldn't get oil out that far.

Sorry I dunno. Take it to a mechanic you trust though!

Just wondering...if its a v6 is the HG recall done yet? I guess if it was severely blown, oil could exit out of the head and end up on the ground...???

Just a thought.
