Grey wire mod question

I did this a while ago but Sunday was the first time i really needed to use the locker. I was wondering if the locker light will go solid or not? It just kept on blinking at me.

Or did i do something wrong?

I followed these instructions- HBoss.net

the locker light goes solid. Sometimes it takes a little bit of coaxing to get it to lock though, especially if you don't use it all the time.

To test it, put the truck in 4LO and see if the locker will engage. You may have to slowly move back and/or forward to get it to lock. When the light goes solid, the rear is locked. If you have the radio off and the window down you can also usually hear it engage.

Once it works this way, try going back in to 2WD and engaging it.

I've done this mod and it works like a charm.

Did you possibly ground the wrong end of the wire? You need to ground the wire coming out of the ECU. Also, if you did the wrong wire it may make a difference. If I recall, either my truck or my friends '02 taco (I don't remember which) did not have a "gray" wire; it was like Red/blue or something.

I think you might have accidently grounded the actual 4WD selector wire.

Hey Allen/rowdy4runnin - did you guys ever get this working?

I'm revisiting the Diff Lock ECU for something else and tripped over this thread. If you're still having trouble, then know that Beau is right - on the 96, the wire is RED/BLUE, not GREY. It _IS_ in the same position that the HBOSS directions talk about.

It worked just fine but since i did the mod, I've been able to get everywhere I've gone without the need for the locker. So when I actually needed it I noticed that it just kept blinking and i never really felt it engage. I got up the trail, but it got me wondering....

Ok, I finally had a second to check this. I too have grounded the Blue/red wire. IT still blinks and I have not felt it engage. I'll put it back to stock to make sure that it still works... but that blue/red wire didn't or hasn't yet, worked for me....

It takes a little bit for mine to actually engage after I press the button, but it always locks after a few seconds of driving forward or backwards. Try having just the ignition on, truck not running, then press the button and see if you can hear it lock. It will be audible if it indeed works.
