Great...hit and run drivers make my blood boil

Great,

Pics to follow....

Someone did $1500 of damage to my tailgate and drove off ....

I got a whole 3500 miles on it.

Man, some people suck.

That sucks. Its so dumb that people can't take responsability for their actions anymore.

did you check around the car for a note?

my friend had this same situation and later found the note someone had written.. it'd blown off the windsheild (under the wiper) and luckily gotten stuck to his rear wheel well wall.

I laugh when I see people park out by themselves at the far end of a parking lot. However, when i park and come out to find a fullsize truck or someone extra close I cringe and check. its only a matter of time. And yes, I own a white 4runner.

I was parked in the general lot...looks like someone in a pickup
backed out and just tagged me with a ballhitch.

Missed the bumper and hit the tailgate....would have been cheaper if it was just the bumper.

There was a big pile of snow which I guess must have dropped from his truck when he hit mine. Judging by the tracks in the snow , he took off in a hurry spraying my car with slush and crap.

I think I saw the truck when I parked but I could not recall a tag.

Luckily nothing like this has happened to me before--I'm keeping my fingers crossed--but I wouldn't worry if I was you. I always think that some way or another, they'll end up paying for what they did and probably much more.

My truck is ten years old and I can't imagine how I would react (and wouldn't like to find out) if this was to happen to me, but a new vehicle? I'd raise all hell...

Some people are just like that dude. Sorry to hear it. I take every precaution I can, and I'm sure you do the same thing. Somethings you just can't help. Sorry to hear it.

dave,

unavoidable and completely insane. people can be such scum. i caught a hit and run'er once and the offender's insurance co's agent called me. it was funny to hear what story the lady gave. literally, the lady hit the car while backing up, got out of the car, inspected it, and flew out of the parking lot like a bat outta hell. of course, she claimed that she never realized she hit the car.

anyways, hopefully youll get it fixed w/ no hassle.

I feel your pain

Several years ago I was parked in a parking garage at Emory University and they were having some kind of orientation day for prospective students, so the normally half full deck was slammed. I usually got there at 6:30 a.m. to avoid traffic and to get a close parking place up top, lazy folks wouldn't park up there. Anyway, I come out after a long day at school, get in my 96 Taco, back up, and started forward and the sound was horrible. I stopped, got out and someone had hit my front end so hard that the front bumper/valence was wedged into my front tires. I had to get out the tools and literally loosen the whole bumper assembly and kick it/yank it out. Cost me a deductible of $250 and did $1400 damage. Like the fool that hit me didn't know they hit me! People sure do suck sometimes! The only reassuring thing is that what goes around comes around...

I've often considered a monitoring device that you can install in your vehicle. If the alarm is set off, it will do a quick snap shot in each direction (4) and undoubtedly photograph the offender. I don't guess there's anything like this out yet, maybe soon enough though. BTW, I'm not sure what kind of parkinglot you were in, but if it was at Wal-mart, they should have security cameras that might have just caught that on tape.

That kind of thing sucks. Less than a month after I got my truck some jackass hit my rear door. Glass was okay, but I had to get $1800 worth of new door and bumper. Sucked. Then when I got it back the first time, the rear wouldn't unlock. Then the second time my drivers seat was stuck in short person position. I don't know how. Bad experience overall.

Hit and run this topic gives me nightmares, ever wonder why you see cars with pretty extensive damage driving around for months thats just the battle damage, thats an advance notice to say away from them

I love it when I park by myself out in parking lots and I come back to my truck and their are cars parked every other spot away from me or in certain garages the cars are parked just far enough away that the doors can swing open fully without hitting each other, at least I know with people like that they respect each others ride.

Is hit and run like a deer hitting you, you just have to deal with the deductable, anyways good luck and just be glad they can fix cars like they never been hit
