Good Price? (1st gen 4runner)

New to the forums. Currently drive a 96 BMW M3, ocasionally drive my familys 02 Prerunner Tacoma (4 cyl). Looking to buy a first gen 4runner. Found this, was wondering how the price is?

88 LIFTED 4RUNNER 4X4 W/ SLIGHT ENGINE ROD NOCK
BLK AND SILVER, GREAT EXT. AND INT.
3IN BODY LIFT WITH 32IN AT'S
M/T ,REMOVABLE TOP
v6 3.0/ MAN. TRANS.

exterior and interior looks excellent. clean title too. not sure of the miles yet. how much does it cost for parts to rebuild this motor?

which is more popualr and better overall performing? 22re or 3.0v6?

thanks!

the v6 has a lot more power... but the 22re is a very strong motor and is around in a ton of vehicles, the r series 4 cyl engines built toyota's awesome reputation..

i thought that the v6 didnt come out until the 89 model year?

personally, unless you plan on being able to do an engine swap yourself, i say look for another vehicle.... a rod knock can be due to many reasons, i used to be a tech for a repair place, if i notice a vehicle with a rod knock, i automatically think it was neglected or abused and i dont want to buy someone else's headache....

The v6 came out in 88. I would pass too unless you wish to do an engine swap over a rebuild. Most here would rather swap out the 3.slow for a 3.4

so this is not a good rebuild vechicle? i plan to do all the work myself. how much would the 3.4 be? how about the 7mgte swap (turbo supra)? I can get it probably for $1700.

my goals for this car is to be able to go to tahoe, daily drive it, and ocassionally hit up the trails.

the 3.0 isn't really a "bad" engine, it was just put together with some inferior parts. re-assemble it with ARP head studs(well worth the $$$) and quality head gaskets and it will be a very reliable motor

ARP does not make studs for the 3.slow you have to go to DOA racing...
