Good Buy? - 85 w/Carb Problem

This guy has an 85 pickup in my area with 99k on it. This is his 3rd Toyota pickup and he says the only thing wrong mechanically is the carburator which makes it idle high. I planned to switch it to fuel injection anyways to throw into my 4Runner, should this be okay or is it too sketchy?

He said the last owner put in a 15gallon mack truck gas tank and stuff got from that into the carb and now he runs off of a 6gallon boat tank.

It had its frame professionally repaired but has a wood bed and bad fenders, the cab is okay.

He's sellin for $850obo, so I will try to talk down a little cause it seems like a lot of work. Besides the fact that its solid axle and thats nasty is this a good buy?

Talking 85

I just looked into getting an older rig myself and from what I found if you get a 85 4Runner you get the solid axle up front and the EFI - best of both worlds. But good luck finding one that isn't a clunker. My oh my how 1985 seems like such a long time ago...I was driving then and to have a 1985 Toyota 4x4, you were the bomb!

I'm just going to keep my eyes open and sooner or later I'll find a nice 85 4Runner that I can fix up and make into a nice trail rig that I can tow with my 3rd genner or go get on the trails, if need be!

850 isn't a bad deal if it runs. to fix the high idle you could play with the speed screw

You said it's nasty...if that means rusty, let it go. I always feel that I can tackle almost anything mechanical...or get someone who can. There's no cure for rust.
