Glass question
Hi Folks,
I have a question about some of the glass on the 3rd gen 4runner. How much is the rear privacy glass (with the factory tint), not the tailgate but the furthest back on the side of the rig.
Thanks.....

The rear quarter panels that are pressed in, probably 300 a peace maybe more, when I was at the dealership a glass guy was replacing the windsheild on a brand new 4Runner and he said the price of it was 1500 for just the OEM glass no labor, so get full glass

Did you break one or did you want factory tinted ones, if you have untinted ones just get after market tint, those are like the windsheild, pressed into the body you always want the original of them until the unforeseen happens

Here in Ireland many makes of 4x4's are sold with the rear seats removed and the windows removed and replaced with panels. This is for motor tax reasons, They are *much* cheaper to buy and road tax is about 1/5th the price. When I bought my Surf, the seats had been removed but the rear windows were sandblasted and painted body colour (same effect as panels). I bought replacement factory tint glass for the back doors but the rear quarters were way too dear at 600 euro the pair.
So I thought they might have been a lot less expensive in the states.
Question - would they be expensive from a wreckers yard?

Ciaran.
You may find that the paint can be removed and the glass repolished cheaper than replacing them. You may be able to do it yourself if you are willing to take the time, you can get a glash posihing kit from Frost's (www.frost.co.uk) for £20 which attaches to your drill.
Good luck.

Andy,
Great tip. I will follow up on that. When polished, would the glass be as smooth as factory? 'Cos then I would want to tint it to match the rest of the factory tint...

Should be a smooth as the proverbial babies buttocks. It's sold for getting out deep scratches from knackered wiper blades, It will probably take a damn long time but it will certainly be cheaper than spending the childrens inheritance with Toyota.
Cheers
