The power antenna motor in my 98 is shot, so I want to disconnect it (to get rid of the annoying cycling sound at start up and shut down). I looked at the fender liner today while changing out the tranny oil, and briefly tried taking it off. That little b@stard doesn't want to come off at all. Any tricks to getting those annoying snap clips out? I tried getting one out, but only managed to pull of its plastic collar, making it even more difficult to get out. I imagine that they aren't salvagable, but I just want to get them out without tearing the liner itself. Any pointers? Otherwise I'm just going to roll out with pliers and hope for the best.


By the way, this forum has been great so far... I had a rough idle, and cleaned my MAF per instruction and the truck idles like a million bucks now (assuming a million bucks would idle at a steady 600 rpm). Thanks in advance.

I need help with this too. I have a 93' but I have tried to get the cover off with no luck.

I have a chunk of the mast stuck in the hole, I need to take the whole thing out to fix it.

i think they may sell a tool for removing these but i just took some pliers and pried them off, half of them broke and i went up to advanced auto and bought some new generic dohickies and put it all back together. knowing toyota, they are probably like $5 each to replace and a package of 10 from the auto store was about that much.

I usually just buy a few from the dealer and cut the old ones off.
IIRC they are only like $.80 ea.

How do you cut them off without getting the shank portion trapped in the hole... or if you cut off the top can you push the shank portion into the hole and it will drop out?

Just did this last week.
Cut the head off with a single edge razor blade; punched the remaining square part thru to the inside. Toyota part Number is: 90189-06212; .73 Cents each at my local Dealer.

I am guessing they are the same on 2nd gen 4runners too???

you can take your time and use a flathead if you have noticed the shank is square and 2 of the 4 corners push in. you can push them in and work them out that way. but i would go with Mark's answer

Dikes. No, not large women in flanel, the wire cutters in your tool box. Grab it, don't cut it, wiggle side to side. If it doesn't budge, THEn cut it.

I was able to get mine out by just lifting one edge until it came out of the hole. I was expecting to break it, but it came out intact. I think I was just lucky.

I did buy ten replacements from my dealer just in case. BTW the part number provided earlier in the thread did not match my clips. My clips have a textured pan head with no hole in the center. The ones specified in this thread had a flat round head with a hole in the center.

That is for the fender flare screws to go in and hold it on.

is it just me, or do the older trucks and 4runners have a glue holding the fender to the clip, as well as screws? when i took my fenders off i had to use a torch to heat em up to get em off
