Well i've decided that i'm going to get my new exhaust
I'm planning on getting it within the next few weeks unless something comes up
I just want to make sure of what I should do, so here' what i'm planning on getting...
I'm going to go for a custom cat back system, with 2.25" tubing, and a Magnaflow Muffler (same one Corey has Part# 11225).
What i'm wondering about is there anything else I need to know or do, or specify for the shop? Also I want a muffler with a nice loud and low sound to it, from what everyone here recommended it seems like the Magnaflow will be perfect for me, so I just wanted to double check on that
So any last minute suggestions?
Thanks again for everyone's help

Sounds good.
All you need is the muff, and let the shop bend the tubing for you and install it.
You might want them to add a tip on the end of the pipe where it exits, or the bare tube can get fugly looking after awhile.
I must confess with this nice weather we are having all week that I leave the stereo off and the front two windows down some to hear my exhaust.
It sounds damn good at taking off from a stop, and at 30 to 40 MPH around town.
I put the windows up most of the way for freeway driving at 55 plus, but around town with the windows down, it's music to my ears

Do exhaust places usually have mufflers in stock? Or should I order it online and bring it in with me? hehe you can tell i'm very new to all this
It would probably be easier to just call the place where I'll take it, but I just wanted to make sure
Yeah I was thinking about also getting a tip installed, because my current one looks really bad, it's all rusty, muddy, and blackened
I'm getting so excited about this
I had an aftermarket exhause on my first car (a Jeep Wrangler) and it sounded soooooooo nice
LOL I never thought that I would have anything but a Jeep when I first got my Wrangler, but the repair bills just kept stacking up, and to me it just wasn't worth it, and plus it was a complete gas hog
hehe that isn't saying much, my 4Runner is only getting a few more miles per gallon than my Jeep was. And now that i've gone Toyota i'm never going back
Thanks for the advice Corey

Hey there Branden.
You'll like the Magnaflow. It sounds real nice on Corey's 4runner.
The shop you take it to will have the muffler.
When i had my Flo-Pro exhaust installed they actually had me listen to two different mufflers on my rig so i can decide which one i like.
Have fun

I would say go check out Summit Racing for your muffler. I don't think that the muffler shop would have the muffler that you want in stock. I bought my Dynomax from Summit. It was really cheap, and the cheapest place that I found. Goodluck and keep us up to date. :fireman:

Well i'm going down to the exhaust shop tommorow to setup an appointment (or do it tommorow if they have time, and the parts
) I checked out the Dealer page on Magnaflow's site and the exhaust shop that I'm going to goto is a "MagnaFlow Preferred Pro-Installer" So i'm hoping that they'll have the muffler in stock, and if not hopefully they'll be able to order it for me and have it within a few days, because i'm getting very anxious
I'll post an update tommorow after I get home from school and the exhaust shop

I probably won't right now. I'll check into how much it would cost to get a high flow catalytic convertor, if it won't cost much more i'll probably do that too. I have no idea what the pros and cons are for high flow catalytic convertors, but I'll look into it tommorow.

Well I just got home from the exhaust shop, where they are now installing my new Magnaflow Muffler and 2-1/4" Cat-Back System
They had a slot open today because someone cancelled, and luckily they had the exact muffler I wanted (Part# 11225, same one Corey has) and will have it done later this afternoon
So now i'm just anxiously waiting for them to call and tell me that my truck is done
I'll post again tonight, after I drive it for a while, and let you all know what I think about it
Thanks Everyone for all your help with this!

Can't wait to hear what you think. Also, don't be afraid if you see smoke coming from the tailpipe and muffler. That is just the lacquer that is on the materials burning off. It will smell, but will go away. :fireman:

Well I just got home with my truck, i've been out driving around for the past 45 minutes with all the windows down listening to the SWEET sound of my Magnaflow
To who ever told me that after I have it installed, I would kick myself for not doing it sooner... You Are Soooooo Right!!! It is just plain Awesome!!!
I had called 3 of the muffler places where I live, and 2 of the places told me that it would cost $400 for the setup
So I just hung up when they told me that (I had already called the place I got it done to get a quote, and they told me between $150-$300 for it) So I drove down there earlier today to make an appointment, and they told me that they could have it done for me this afternoon
And it turns out that one of the owners (it's a family owned shop, that's been in town for like 20 years) is good friends with my cousins, so he cut me a deal, I got the whole setup for $220 out the door, and got a very nice looking chrome exhaust tip
Corey, you were right about me having a smile on my face as I pulled out. So far the sound is AWESOME!!! I know that I am going to think of this as definitely my best mod, and so far it is
BTOWN, Yeah I had read a few posts (I think they were by you
) About the muffler smoking and smelling a bit before all of the stuff gets burnt off, it smells like I just got all my brakes replaced
Out of curiousity how long does it usualy take to burn that stuff off?
Thanks everyone for you input on this
And to everyone who's thinking about getting an exhaust system, but weren't sure if it was worth it.... BUY IT!!!

Most cool
Glad you like the setup.
A lot of folk's often overlook what a nice custom job can do.
Not only for the performance of the vehicle, but for the wide cheek to cheek grin it puts on your face
I bet you will like it most when going around 30 MPH puttin' through town.
And when you go under an overpass between walls, the ehco is real nice.
Do you have access to a digicam so you can make a vid of it, or have someone shoot you as you drive by?

I'd like to get Mike's Magnaflow too that he has on his 3rd gen.
I have not heard one yet on that engine.

I might be able to borrow my friend's digital video camera. I'll definitely try and get some pics, and hopefully some vids of it.
And yeah my truck sounds VERY nice when i'm going around town at 30mph
The blends in (and almost drowns out) the sound of my K&N FIPK
It's a VERY Nice combo, both performance wise, and sound wise

Well, my drive home from the muffler shop was on a highway, and yeah, I drive fast. It all burnt off in like 15 minutes, but the pipes were really hot, I am guessing. So I would think that would be about the time. Not more than 30 minutes. It all burns off and you will be good then. I am glad to hear that you like it. Just be careful, because people look at you with weird expressions when you are driving with your head out of the window. Welcome to the world of custom exhausts! :fireman:

I definitely want to get an aftermarket exhaust system, but I am into it more for the performance than the sound. There are quite a few of companies that offer aftermarket kits for our trucks, what advantage do you have by going with a custom kit? I would be afraid that the jackass at the local muffler shop would do someting weird and leave me with a ˟˟˟˟ up setup.
Having had a sport compact performance car in the past, has anybody considered an exhaust system from a company like GReddy, www.greddy.com. I don't know how many systems they have available for 4Runners (I know they have at least one), but they sure do make a hell of a system for performance cars. And the tips (or mufflers), look pretty damn sweet hanging off the back of a car (or truck).
I have definitely grown out of that fast-car import stage, but that does not mean that I don't want an exhaust system that gives me the most bang (hp) for the buck. We don't have much HP in these trucks, so I really want to squeeze everything I can get from these bolt-on mods. The super charger may be in my future, but not for a while. I only have 350 miles on the new 'runner, no need to throw a super charger on there yet.
So basically, is custom the way to go? It may be cheaper, but is it really better? What about the Borla or Gibson systems??
