Question getting into a speedometer?

Hi to all,
I followed with great interest the thread about noisy speedometers. It describes mine exactly. I wonder if anyone can give any pointers on disassembling the dash in order to get to and disconnect the cable? I understand that it can be very difficult to lubricate. Does any lubricant go into the speedometer itself or does it stay in and on the cable? Your help appreciated! I have a 1995 4runner sr5

Hi Brian, and welcome to YotaTech.
Check out the Tech section that is linked off of the main site here.

Look in the cosmetic section for the indiglo gauge links.
Joey has one for a '94, and Jason has one for a '95.

Both should show you how to rip apart the dash to get to the speedo cable.

I am not sure what type of lube to use.
The dealers most of the time replace the cable if you take it there to the tune of about $70, not including the labor.

There is no speedo cable... its all electronicly controlled

there is an odometer cable though...

I have a 95 runner.. see my writeup here. it tells you how to tear down the dash and get to the cluster step by step
