if I were you, I would not waste my money on the performance mods such as the S/C, headers, exhaust for the 4Runner. The reason for that is because you can't go fast with the SUV. The faster you go, the more likely you will lose control and possibly a rollover with such a high center of gravity vehicle. That is why I keep my 4Runner as stock as possible except a few minor mod with the air intake. If you want to go fast, get a sportscar.

Horrible!

Dual catalytic converters, not dual catalyst. It says that the pre 99 only had one catalytic converter, so it will likely not be a direct bolt on. A muffler shop (assuming the exhaust routing has not changed over the years) could make it work with yours.

I advise you to sell your 4Runner and get you a car if that's what you are wanting, you'll save money in the long run.

well, i think it will be ownage when it owns a vette. because how much did they spend on a vette? and how much did you spend on a 4runner? but for some, its the luxury and name. and btw, my parents wont buy me a sports car, until i graduate from college. 3 more years!!

Your parents should have to buy you a car to begin with....

The large majority of these guys have been telling you that it's not worth it and I have to agree. If you want to "pwn" sports cars then I would suggest that you be patient and wait to get a sports car. All the money you sink into the 4runner now is pretty much going to be waste if you're planning on getting another vehicle in just 3 years.

Hmm, how is it your intake "broke down" then?

This post is kind of hokey

...so you're purposely trying to break something so you can modify a vehicle that's not yours so you can race until you get a new car in about 3 years or so?

That's it, right?

oh, people dont think its my car. the suv was bought for me in 2001 and i am pretty much only driver. but they dont want me to mess with the car, i changed all the altezzas and rims. mostly exterior and they dont like it, so they said not to mess with it anymore.

but yes, im trying to make it like 13 sec 1/4 mile and im happy.

yong,

frankly speaking, you asked for professional advice and youre getting it. the problem is not that people arent giving you good advice on how to achieve your objective---it seems like the problem is that you don't like what youre hearing.

so again to reiterate: you'd have to "break" alot of things and then buy thousands of dollars worth of mods to get close to your goal. just be happy you inherited a nice vehicle at such a young age.

Sounds like you are in college. Find some friends for next year, get a house together, and make sure it has a garage. Pay and extra 50 bucks a month or so to have the garage to yourself. Then, pull your junk in there, and tear it apart. I don't see why you want to race a 4Runner, it's built to handle offroad situations a lot better, but i'm also not going to tell you your business. However, i will tell you that "burning rubber out of every traffic light" is not going to wear out your headers, or exhaust, and will probably just trash your clutch, possibly a tranny, well, pretty much the whole driveline. If you already have the S/C, (which i wasn't sure if you did or didn't) put that on first. THEN add headers and exhaust.

tell you what.... leave me your spare key and i will come "steal" it, then you can get a honda crx or civic or something with the insurance money so you can
"race." im also a freshman in college and just bought a 4runner with my own earned money and you are talking about "burning rubber to break down headers" ...so you can coax your parents into letting you waste money on it to beat ricers...

Seriously bro, not trying to flame, but it's really not all that cool to spend 12-15k on your truck itself (I know the parents paid, but it's still money, and if you respect them, you'll consider this), then another 10K at least on modifications to help you outrun that corvette, when you will still be breaking stuff all the time becuase you're putting so much stress on your motor and driveline. A C5 has around 300hp at the wheels stock. Your runner... probably 140. You'll need a minimum of about 350-375 because your weight disadvantage as well as your suspension and traction issues. And you'll never beat any sportscar anywhere but in a straight line from a dig. Over 100mph, and any advantage you might have is outweighed by wind resistance.

A better Idea would to be pick up a 97 Vette for around 20 (or less), or a 99 LS1 (carmaro/T/A) for around 10k and then you'd have what you want, and your nice Toyota wouldn't be sitting broken on the side of the road all the time.

If this isn't a possibility, be happy with what you have. It's a lot more than a lot of people have, and you might just enjoy the 4Runner for what it is.
