Gen 2 engine swap

OK. I'm sure this must have been covered in the past. But a search failed to turn it up, so I'm going to invoke newbie flame immunity and forge ahead I recently acquired a '91 V6 auto SR-5 4WD with all the bells and whistles. It has 114K, so I'm expecting a lot of trouble-free miles yet. But let's suppose that the engine lunches for some reason, and needs rebuilding or replacement. I understand from the 4Runner FAQ that the 3.0l is not a good candidate to hop up. What is involved in mating the 3.4l to a gen 2 drivetrain? Or are there better swaps? I think a V8 is probably out of the question, as there doesn't seem to be much extra room under the bonnet as is, and because of the weight distribution disruption it would cause.

HI Scott, welcome to the forums.
I saw last week a website that makes a harness that will mate the 3.4 in a 3.0 equipped rig to it's computer.
The battery has to be moved of course to the other side of the bay.

I'd try and find the article or link, but my 'Net is cutting in and out on me all day today, and it's hard to even make a post here.

As far as a V8, check out out John Douglas's '91 4Runner. he has a 5.0 Mustang mill in it, and he likes it.
You can find him in the member list here and his homepage.

Ah, I found it. Only took me a minute to open the link. Dang cable.
Hope they fix it tonight. It's effecting most of WA. state.

Here's a good link:

You will also need to swap out your tranny to a newer one from a 3.4L auto or change to a 5-speed
