Hello, i'm not sure where to start. So i figured i'd post here.

i have a question. I'm hard of hearing and i lip read. I'm curious to see what you guys have to say, from your experience, which color bulbs would be best for visibility and do not interfere with driving?

You might be wondering, wtf i'm talking about? lol. What i would like to do is change all of the interior bulbs to a different color. I'd like to add lights for under the dash for the floor aswell. So, i have a 98 limited 4runner, what would you recommend for bulbs also where should i order these from?

- Guessing this is what i need... ( i have 98 limited 4runner)
5x #74 for shifter, climate control, key ring, ashtray
3x #194 for gauge cluster
2x newo wedge for a/c+defroser

for climate control, should i use 3- LED bulbs from autolumination?

thanks for your input!

PS: Also is it illegal to have interior lights on while driving? I'm talking about the floor lights, not the lights above the rear view mirror. thanks!

from my opinion, i used 2 9 or 12inch neon tubes for the floor lights, blue in color. i used white for my shifter light cos it just illuminates better than any other color, especially cos ur shifter has orange and green in it. i used 3 194 bulbs that had 5 led points on it, u can find that on superbrightleds.com and the climate control i have not received my tri-led's yet.

personally dont order from autolumination, im still waiting for my order and its been about a month. I have also read more horror stories about not even receiving bulbs to incorrect orders and non refunds from them than positive comments. order from ebay or superbrightleds. ebay is even better cos u can find lots for the same price. type in T5 LED or something. hope this helps

blue lighter and blue dash, white shifter and so far they look great and the blue dash doesn't interfere with my eyes.

* i have seen a 9point led 194 bulb on ebay, this would make your dash so bright and solid, you should give that a try? if u cant find it message me and i will give you the link

Just received my tri-leds from autolumination. i was very worried because of reading the bad reviews of bad service from that company. although it was the slowest out of superbrightleds and ebay, i did finally receive them. NOTE* the packaging is very ghetto. lights seem ok i will post pics of before and after.

* these were all taken with a cellphone

these are broad daylight pics of the dash

I will post pics of all the lights in in 2-3 days

I use autolumination. They are local for me so I receive everything in a day or two. I like their products, however, i did have a bad batch last summer and when I emailed them, it took a few back and forth emails and they kind of gave me a bit of atittude for them to send me new ones. I have used them since with no issues.

update, the white tri-leds did not fully illuminate the climate controls as I would hope. Yes its brighter than the stock green bulbs but its very spotty looking, I have a theory that blue leds will " glow " better and fill out the climate control better?? Anyone have suggestions or more pictures of their climate controls?

this was a very helpfull thread. 99 and newer guys just have to remember your gauge lights are 24 not 194.

Also be carefull which leds you order. You want a wide radius , I went with the #74 single HP from superbright leds. Which are very bright, but they left wicked hot spots in my hvac. They distribute the light directly in front but not off to the sides enough....

I have some reguler LEDS on the way from ebay (ive always had good luck with them ) , and I know people use a hot glue gun or clean silicone on the top of the led to dispurse the light better.

Heres a pic of how bad my hot spots are !

I have these bulbs on thier way,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT
they should help with the hotspots.

As for the gauges im going to try my #24 Hight power bulbs tonight and see how it looks, there isnt many bulb options for the #24

good luck with the blue tri-leds. my white tri-leds didnt do anything for my climate control. it almost looks like its single point leds in there. as for the 194 10point ones, they might. all i know is that it would be bright compared to the 5 point ones i have in

So far ive tried everything but the 3 high power led in the hvac.
I tried regulaer white led bulbs with silicone on top, tried one with a glue gun dab on top. The single high power LED .Nothing helped.
I put the single Highpower white in my gauges and they actually dont look bad at all.
Just the HVAC control .

max, the pic you uploaded of your HVAC, thats what mine looks like right now but it has tri-leds in. I wonder if theres a way to somehow fit 2 bulbs in one socket, like a connector that splits out to 2 ports? I dont know... but i dont like the way it looks.

key ring changed to red ( single point led )
white hvac ( tri led )
blue cig lighter ring ( single point led )
white led stick with 3 point in the shifter. ( not the tri-led, it looks like a microchip with 3 points covering 180 degrees )

heres some points, you can fit a tri-led in the shifter if u wanted for some reason, u can fit the tri-led in the key ring also despite what others might say.

Ya there's isn't to many options for the 74 bulb. plus all the wires are just to damm tight to work with. When I get my tri led bulbs I'm going to try to block off the top led with something. And hopefully the 2 side leds will light it up without making hotspots.

ive asked about this, But i cant tell if its what were looking for or not http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T5-28...Q5fAccessories

UPDATE: no more hotspots !

I installed the 3 smt HP leds in my hvac http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT
And man it looks looks great.
To avoid hotspots I put a realy good size dab of clear RTV silicone on the top bulb to dim and dispurse the light alittle(try not to get silicone on the side bulbs) . And spun the bulb socket so the other two side bulbs direct the light well
Heres a pic :

and heres a pic of before with the single HP led

I want to try to get the 9 bulbed led for my dash, theoretically it would be even brighter than the setup I have now. Someone please try lol.
