and i'll have some pics of bretts LC coils installed on my runner in a month or so.

oh, and the panhard is the culprit. i thought everybody knew that and didn't realize it was being discussed. when the DS droops, it tries to swing forward in an arch around the pivot point created by the upper and lower links. this creates binding at the panhard bar (tries to torque it in a clockwise motion as you look down it's axis from the DS), which eventually stops downward travel as the joints and flex of the bar reaches it's limits. a panhard drop bar will help w/ some of that cause the bar can be torqued easier than a straight bar due to the leverage that can be imparted by the "step" designed into the bar. a panhard drop bracket simply moves the mounting point lower, but doesn't do anything to add any additional flex over stock. put an adjustable panhard bar in that can pivot on the threads (or one w/ better ends) and it will droooooooooooooooooop like crazy. it's on my to-do list, but nowhere near the top.

What about just swapping coils for leaves???

I know it is not easy like a spring swap, but wouldn't that solve a number of issues with the panhard bar, towing ability, and flex.

I still don't know what is required to swap leaf springs though

I've got a JJ joint on the driver's side, and if I discover your information to be true Andy, I'll be install a urethane bushing with 1 1/8" 16 pitch thread into a coupling that has a zerk fitting so I can grease it and it can rotate freely the way you mention. Then, without the binding, we should be good to go.

That is on my to do list one day. But since I'm not a welder, it'll probably be close to $1500-$2000. So, it's not justified at this point for me.

Now Chris air shocks aren't comparable to leaf springs b/c leaf springs=

1. Way increased articulation over the stock 5 link

2. Eliminate all these stupid suspension links

3. Most likely delete the need for a swaybar b/c of the leaves stability

4. Are a way simpler design than anything else

Basically they are old school proven and simple.

The only part I disagree with is that they flex better, but I agree with the rest, mostly.

I mean flex better over what the 5 link design offers.

Hey Chris, didn't you relocate your gas tank? If you did, then what about doing a triangulated(sp) 4 link? This would get rid of the panhard bar and increase flex at the same time. Just a thought.

I'm thinking about it, but I kind of alread planned to do something different. I might just wait and do it all out, though.

Any updates on this set up? Has anyone else thrown a set of LC coils on? I was still thinking about doing it but wanted to see if anyone had any ill effects/modifications from it. This thread was super busy, but now has died off.

Cheers !!!

I've had my LC coils on for about 2.5 weeks now, I love them, the ride is much smoother/plush over my old set up of stock coils with a 2.25" spacer. The LC coils yeilded about 3.5" of lift which LOOKS GREAT. I am also running a custom 3.5" Panhard drop bracket. so everything is straight and leveled. I did notice a jurastic shift in my axel without a PH drop bracket. Overall I have NO complaints with my OEM LIFT setup. (Tundra/LC)

Yep, I have to agree that the LC coils in the rear made a drastic improvement to my ride quality in the rear.

But, the Tundra setup with the top out spacers is too high for a rig with no aftermarket bumper and/or winch, in my opinion. I've shifted my projects now to finishing my fender trimming, and then I'm going to begin fabrication of a front bumper to add some weight up front.

2wheelblackout...got any pictures to share?

Also, who made your custom panhard drop bracket? I wonder if the bars that Steve makes would be angled enough for a LC Coil set up ? Or if his bars are meant for OME 891's...

I'm sure he can make them any length you need or bend to them if asked. He's great to work with, plus if it was me, I'd ask him to put two RE joints on either end for the ultimate non-binding panhard bar. Because, if you ever decide to relocate your shocks to increase your travel, the panhard bar with stock bushings will limit your travel. With the RE joints, it will allow the panhard bar to shift forward and back more easily, which essentially allows more flex.

Anyone think the LC coils create too much body roll on the street?

It's very close to stock coils with the main difference being that the truck sits up higher causing your COG to be higher. To me, slap a Addco front swaybar on, take the rear off, and you're good to go on the road. I have approx 6-7" of lift now and running that setup seems to be fine to me.
