One thing to look at though, is that the FJ's are probably not as thick, which results is a much softer ride.

Gerdo, you should probably either:

A) start reading this thread from the beginning or

B) search for answers to your questions

i suggest both, because there are MANY options to lift your 4Runner. lucky for you, it has been narrowed down to one main setup, http://sonoransteel.com/recommend.html

Chris these are about 21" tall standing on the ground and the color code is:

blue+pink+white

gray+orange+white

By my really rough and crude tape measurements, these would have to compress about 6.5" when installed to be where I want to be-I don't think it's gonna happen.

That seems longer than the 7 wraps. Are you sure their 7 wraps and not 8? What year were they from again?

No, I'm sure that they are 8 wraps!

They are from a '91.

Brett, how much are they asking for them? Can you take pics of them when you get a chance? I'd like to get them if I can get them much cheaper than the brand new ones.

hmm... i was hoping yours were 97 b/c then there might be SOME sort of pattern. it still seems like its jumping around. the one factor could be steel rear bumper vs. stock. are jayson (loosehead) and jim the only ones so far that are satisfied? i think it'll help when calrockx gets his in, bc his are from a 94 but have 7 coils. the weird thing is, brian had 96 coils, and got more lift than jim with 95 and loosehead with 97. this is all too confusing

heres a table i've been keeping up with, add/edit your information:

Brett's junkyard find..1991......8 coils......approx 21"

Bamachem...............1993.......125k........way too much........8 coils

RTDawgs.................1993.....................( probably same as andy)

KevyWevy...............1993....................... .........................8 coils

calrockx..................1994.................... ............................7 coils

Albuquerque Jim........1995.......114k........3.25"........... .................

Brian.......................1996.................. ...>4"..............................

KevyWevy...............1996....................... .........................8 coils

Loosehead...............1997.......140k........3.5 ".....................7 coils

garrett1478.............1997.......144k........... ........................7 coils
I'm not seeing many trends here, except that 1991, 1993, and 1996 seem to be the years with 8 wraps, right?

Alright, this is going to confuse the hell out of everybody. I purchased some springs today from raventai on IH8MUD. He's parting out a vehicle for Urban Cruisers out of Atlanta. The springs on that vehicle were already gone but after talking with him I learned that Urban Cruisers had lots of FJ80 front springs laying around. I met with him today and we measured and noted every spring and here we go (don't know the years):

The color codes are in order from the installed position bottom to top (the color dot nearest the flat end of the spring is last in this listing). Height was measured at the longest point (end of the wrap) from inside the spring.

(1) 21" Blue Pink White 9.25 wraps
(1) 21" Grey Orange White 9.25 wraps

(3) 20.25" Blue Yellow White 8.75 wraps-one of these is a confirmed LX450

(3) 19.5" Green Yellow White 8.25 wraps-one of these is a confirmed LX450

(1) 19.5" Purple Green White 8 wraps

(1) 19.25" Double Purple Dark Blue White 8 wraps

(1) 19" Double Pink Light Blue White 7.5 wraps

(1) 18.5" Double Pink Grey White 7.5 wraps

(1) 18 7/8" Orange Orange White 7.75 wraps

I bought (2) Double purple Light Blue White that are 19" and 7.5 wraps.

The 2 confirmed LX450 springs came off of the same vehicle. It isn't known if any of the others are LX450, most likely they are Landcruiser. We also looked on Raven's stock LX450 and it had a green yellow white on the passenger side and a blue yellow white on the drivers side.

It is also interesting that on the 2 longest springs at 21" the colored dots were roughly twice the size of the dots on the other springs (1" vs 0.5"). The last thing to note is that the gas tank is on the drivers side of all 80's and all 80 front axles have a raised 1" or so plate where the drivers side front spring mounts to the axle (not raised on the passenger side).

This may confuse the crap out of everyone, but if you're interested in any of these springs then contact raventai over on www.IH8MUD.com or post in this thread:

Nope, double purple is what I took. It's really hard to tell the pink from a faded purple, but the ones I have are definitely purple.

Thank you for going through these springs with me, I had no idea there were this many diffrent kinds of OEM 80 series coils, at mud we dont really talk about or really pay much attension to stock springs it has been an education.

I hope the springs work out well for you.

I've got a pair of springs that came off a 94 Landcruiser.

One spring is a Double Purple Dark Blue White (19").
The other is a Double Purple Light Blue White (18.5").

I hope this info is useful.

I think these are the same ones I've got coming to be. How many inches of lift did you get out of them on yours? Do you have an aftermarket rear bumper? How much weight do you typically haul around in the back?

Also, what did you do with your brake linkages and lines to extend them?
