fuel milage?

I drove my friends 99 4Runner last night, and it was niiiiice. So I was wondering what kind of gas milage yall get with the 3.4?

I was thinkin about gett just another 22R truck, which, do get good gas milage right? but if the 4runner get nice gas milage then Ill just get one of those.

I get about 16 mpg city and around 22 hwy. It would be better if I didn't have 31" tires and the roof rack on top with a spare tire and lights. As far as the 22R and RE engines I am not too sure. Since they are 4 cyl engines, I would assume they get better mpg but don't quote me on that.

Well if you are looking at a newer one, either a Tacome or a 4Runner, a good compromise may be to get the 2.7 3Rz 4 cylinder. This is what I have in my 2k 4Runner and I love it, I also have owned a truck w/ the 22re. The 2.7 is more refined than the 22re and gets about the same or better gas mileage, and has much more power, it feels a lot stronger. You will still get a timing chain and lower maintenance costs. My truck averages about 20-22 in mixed driving and I have gotten as high as 25 going 80 with the a/c on for a whole tank of gas driving across NY, which is by no means flat.

My '85 2WD 22R averages about 26-28mpg. But I'm sure the 4WD models will get a bit less.

I get 17.3 on average for both city and hwy combined. I have hit as high as 21 on long trips at higher elevations.

There's a ton of threads covering this so try the search and you'll get a lot of results.

BTW I have been getting a 16.5-18mpg with an auto and I do drive a bit aggressive.

I wonder what I'm doing different. I've got a 98 with 108k mikes, 30's on 16's. I haven't hit 17mpg city yet and I'm a pretty conservative driver. Do you guys all have upgraded air filters? I'm running all OEM so maybe I can fix it up a bit.
