stupid off topic question. Why did toyota design such a big plenum. Couldn't they have gotten away with much less?
Looks like more work than I will want to do. Thanks for posting

Thanks for the write up.
I'm having issues with #3.
I'm wondering if I can get away with just the throttle boddy removal, and doing only the 1,3,5 injectors? or do they all have to be done at once?

Much thanks for this guide. Helped me greatly in my injector adventure on my 3.4L 96 tacoma @ 198k. I've never done injectors on a vehicle before. The pictures were invaluable. Now i just need to take the iac off to fix the hot-start issues.
If you have high miles and have an engine code misfire, you're probably going to be looking at an injector. I had one reading 250 ohm. Correct is 12-16 or something like that. Fairly certain they were new from 1996. However, apparently denso injectors coils increasing resistance isn't exactly undocumented or anything. Makes it easy to diagnose atleast

Did you have to replace the manifold gasket?? Are they made of paper or other material?
I'm might be undertaking this job on Wednesday, and looking to find out what parts I'm gonna need to complete the job.
Thanks!

Replace gaskets? I re-used all of mine as they looked brand new. It ain't like a head gasket thats going to F' stuff up if it ain't right.
Worse case scenario will be having to take it all apart a 2nd time if you have a problem. (unlikely)
I valued the $40 i saved by re-using, more-so than the (small)risk of having to fix it if i had a gasket problem. Apples:Oranges i suppose

Thank you for the response. I didn't think new gaskets would be needed, but my buddy suggested we buy them in case. If they don't need to be replaced...we can just bring them back.
Again, all the write-ups I've seen on the subject, mention none of this....but he's always over cautious with buying parts. Nothing worse than needing something, but the store is closed. Make sense??

Thanks for the write up and pictures
Thanks DuB for the write up about how to replace the fuel injectors. It seemed to be a daunting job, but your pictures gave me the kick in the pants to do it. Really, the job was far easier than I expected. I had to change out my #4 injector. So far no problems. I bought the gaskets, but didn't use them and I will return them. I used a genuine Toy injector which cost about $50 more. Has anybody tried the injectors you an get from O'Reilly's?

Thanks DuB. Followed your write up to the "T" and came out unscathed. You really helped to ease my fear at this being my first attempt not to mention how much money I saved from the stealership or other shop. So once again, thanks.

Just replaced my #3 injector on my 96' t-100 3.4. all other injectors were fine. She started right up for literally 1 second then died, now she wont even run. Verified coil pack wires are not crossed and double checked all my electrical connectors.....about 80% sure all my vacuum lines are in the right spot.....i had to move my ground that goes in the driver side of the upper manifold because the bolt snapped off in the manifold (i didn't reef on it, it was just weak from heating up and cooling down i think) i just moved it over to where the "DIAGNOSIS" terminal bolts to.....anyone know what the resistance of the spark plug wires should be? thanks

Fuel Injector O-ring and Insulator Replacement - 5VZ-FE
I need to replace an injector on #3 cylinder. While I have access to all of the injectors, would it be recommended that I replace the o-rings and insulators on all of them? The set I'm looking at is from Amazon - Beck Arnley 158-0893 Fuel Injection O-Ring Kit.

Thanks much.

I think you could just remove the throttle body and is going to be right there easy access to it. Just troubleshoot my misfire on # 5 and what i did i move ignition coil and spark plug to # and vice versa with number 3 to 5 and it dint make any differents still had misfire on 5 so my next move was to listen to injectors and see if they all sound the same and #5 dint sound the same so i took top of intake off took me a few minutes to remove the upper plenum and thats how i switch them out. In your case if u dont want to remove the plenum u could just remove the throttle body and will be able to remove and replace injector.

Throttle body will have to come off. You need access to the bolts to remove the fuel rail. IMO it would be much more difficult to *attempt accessing the injectors with just the throttle body off, than removing the plenum. I have done mine three times (unlucky injector man). After you do it once, its a no brainer doing it again. There's a few tricky spots but its not bad.
Replace O rings definately. The three times i had to replace an injector i just re-used them all. The last time i started having them stretch out and tear. When that happens you 1. have fuel leaking everywhere. 2. Have to repeat the entire job after re-assembly. 3. When you repeat the job, you're basically huffing gas for as long as it takes you to do it. In my experience, i was huffing gas for about 45 min.
That makes 4 times i have replaced an injector. # 4 was simply because i thought, "hey i've reused the O rings three times now, lets go for 4.)
Fuel is flammable. Engines create heat. If you're lucky it will just be an inconvenience.
Or.
