FSM P/N for a A340F in a 96runner
Hey guys was wondering what the part number from the dealer ship for a repair and replacing manual for an A340F in a 96 4runner. I have been looking around and can find it for like 93 pick-ups but not the 4runner,don't really wanna call Helm and buy a new one since toyota doesn't sell them anymore. Anyways have found the repair manual (RM480U) and the electrical wiring diagram (EWD264U). The repair manual covers the A340E and Toyota makes a separate one for the A340F, thats the one i want. Thanks a lot guys.

For the A340E it's RM391.
For the A340F it's RM479.
I think the correct part number for the RM479 (for the A340F) is 00400-RM479.

So when I do a search this is what I get
RM391U - A340E A340F & A340H - Nov 1993
RM479U - A340F & A343F - Sep1995
I assume either one would really work right? Considering they Both say that the books cover it however, what I'm wondering is if there are any changes fom 1993-1995. Once it's a tranny And working model number on vehicles would they change the design? Or is it the same design from the day those A340Fs hit the road till the day they don't make them anymore.

Ended up buying a 3 pack from eBay with the part numbers RM391U - EWD264U & RM480U. For 130 free shipping the only RM i could find was 129 so the 3 pack is a deal. I called a different local stealership talked to an awesome guy who told the RM391U hit the shops with the 96 4runner so I'm going with that for the tranny! Will report back if that is right manual or not.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. That's a complete set, definitely nice to have.
Not sure if this is legit or not, but it looks like you can get just the manual here:

um, you are kidding me, right ?
for 25 bucks you can access toyota tis and download all this
stuff as PDF docs. I have a full a340f manual for 1999 4runner/land cruiser
this way.
log into tis, pay your loot with credit card, wait 1 day, bam 2 days access
to ALL toyota docs. pay more for a year of access.

I'm More of person that wants a hard copy of it. I have the RM on my iPad. Idk about you but not interested in trashing my iPad with my dirty hands or constant washing...that being said I'm very happy with the deal I got. Can't wait for actual hard copy to show up!

Yeah, what you paid isn't a terrible deal. Don't fret. I've done the downloading from TIS thing, and it's a pain in the rear. You can't just download the whole manual with one click. You have to download each individual page, which can be pretty time-consuming. If you have a life/job, your time is better saved by purchasing the hard-copy(ies).

Yeah, the site is difficult to navigate. They do have the correct diagrams and information for each year, but it's not the easiest to navigate them and save them. Nothing can replace having a hard-copy on hand. Every time I've used TIS or my downloaded manual from there, I end up printing it out anyway to take out to the garage. Nice to have!

Got box 1 of 2 on Friday...which had the tranny manual in it, and I couldn't be happier! Step by step tear down, rebuild, SST numbers, correct torque specs and correct operating clearances for the gears. Oh and it was brand new, no bends or tears in the pages no writing at all. Lol it's so nice don't wanna take it to the shop for work and flip through the pages with dirty hands.
