mine does it too.
and mine fell out of the track

took off the panel and managed to finese it back in. i no longer drive with it less than 1/3 down or all the way down/up. it fell out at 1/2 way over speed bumps.
i figure it is fixable (another reason not to buy used in the rain!) but i am used to it now its fine all the way up/down, rattles just in the middle.
it will break completely soon, this im sure of, probably down in the rain too

The driver side window on my 98 SR5 continues to pop off the track I have put it back on 3 times now... I tried some anti-seeze on the track last time and it didn't help any; it is currently off again and I am looking for a permanent fix! I am thinking of replacing the track even though it doesn't look bent or maybe some JB Weld holding it in the roller. Anyone fix this problem before? Any suggestions?

Mine is funky but not coming off the track...yet. I had a 1985 BMW 735i (RIP) that had the same problem about 15 years and 200K miles in. A new track insert (actually called a Glass Run in Toyotaspeak) was the fix on that car. [Thank you, Roadfly E23 board] They just wear out over time. On the 4Runner it's part #68151-35022 (LH) and 68141-35022 (RH) and costs about $85 at on-line dealers. It was a major PITA on the BMW. I'm waiting for mine to get worse before I attack it on the Runner.

If you have a problem viewing this drawing, switch to "The Morning Edition" view format in the bottom left of your screen. Black line drawing on black background doesn't do so well. 'Glass Run' is 6814C/6815C.
