Found a SA 1st Gen For Sale today!

So I was cruising down the road today on base and noticed a 1st Gen. If you guys are like me I notice each and every Toyota on the road.. Well when I usually see a 1st Gen from the side my next thing to do is look under it when I drive by to see if it's got a Solid Axle or not..ya I know pathetic eh... Well I see from the front it has a SA and then I keep rubber necking as I drive by and there's a For Sale on the other side! I promply ripped U-turn to go and check it out. Can't tell if it's an 84 or 85 but it's an SR5. Has 193K on the odo but the sign said it had a rebuilt motor. No oil leaks underneath. Looked like it had about a 1" Body lift on it. It has brand new 31X10.5 BFG A/T's on it. Runningboards are all still on. No dents cept the tailgate was a bit mangled. It has the typical first Gen rust on the rear fenders to the point of having a hole on one side. One front fender had a hole as well. Interior wasn't too thrashed. The asking price on the sign was $2500. Do you guys think it's be worth it? I'd say the general condition is fair with all the rust and stuff. You can see where someone rattle canned on it. I figured it might be worth calling the number at least and see how long ago the motor was rebuilt. If you had just got your taxes back would you consider buying a $2500 rust bucket to make into a thrashing trail rig?

I'd pick that up if it were in running condition and the 4 wheel drive worked. Maybe you should pick it up and turn it into a rock rig

Ya I'm kinda thinking about it. I just got my taxes and a re enlistment bonus that will be eating a serious hole in my pocket....It's the first SA first Gen I have ever seen with a For Sale sign on it that wasn't 5-6K because it had already been built.

What Data said...check out the 4wd and other stuff, see how it runs. Remember, cash talks, make an offer if it seems o.k mechanically.

i paid $2500 for my '89 with 220K miles. it has the same rust you speak of and is not an sr5 (no back seat). mine has given me no problems at all.

Joey,

That's a pretty good deal. I was looking in Washington for a 1st gen up until a couple weeks ago, and was having a real hard time finding much under 4000. Sounds like a pretty good deal.

I just hope people get excited some when I put my 85 EFI 4Runner up for sale. I found a truck on Autotrader that I might go buy this weekend and if I do, I'll be getting rid of my old banger.
I had intended for this one to be the last I ever owned, but then this little package arrived:

and it's 4 doors for me now.

Congratulations!

Hey! Congrats on the "little package". We have a new member for team yotatech! I'd start him with a power wheels FJ-40 when its time and go on from there.
