New to the forum but have stalked you guys for years. 98 3.4l 2WD. Bought it 3 years ago with 172,000 miles now has 222,000. No issues with it at all in 3 year. my daughter is headed to school with it this fall so II needed to do a few things. Valve cover gaskets, timing belt and oil pan gasket. Both valve cover and oil pan were leaking. popped the oil pan off this evening and found this in the bottom of the pan. Any ideas?? I have not removed the strainer or baffle yet, kinda stunned when I found this.

 

It almost looks like a part of the thrust washer but hard to say from the picture.

 

How about placing a coin next to the item (or some other item for size reference)?

ok, it is definately a thrust washer. I did the valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, etc. this weekend and the next door neighbors kid came over. Turns out he's been rebuilding 22re engines for a couple of years. Knew exactly what it was. So, morally I can't sell it so I guess I'm going to have to pull the crank and replace the bearings and washers. Anyone have a thread that runs through this??
