fouling plugs
#1
I got an 85 toy pickup 4x4 with a 22r in it and it is carbed. the problem is i just put this engine in it and it keeps fouling the #4 plug. I can take it out and dry it off (gas soaked) and it will run fine for a few minutes and then it will miss , take it out and dry it off or change it and it will do it all over again, new cap, wires, timing is ok, adjust carb...I have tried bosh platium, ngk, champion, autolight plugs with all the same results, even tried a hotter plug and then tried a colder one ......HELP it is driving me nuts was susposed to go wheeling this weekend but cant get it running right ........ thanks for the help

Sometimes plug can just go bad. You can replace it with a new one or swap it for one of the other ones and see if the problem follows the plug.
If the problem continues in the same cylinder, you can test the injector by swapping it with one in another cyclinder and see if the problem follows the injector.

hey gadget, he's got a carbed engine so it doesn't have injectors
i'd say switching the plug out or just replacing it would be the first thing to do, while you're at it just change all the plugs(if they're not new) and check the compression while they're out

:pat: never thought about checking the compression on it , working all night and working on the truck for a few hours in the morning leaves little time for the brain to relax and sleep ....LOL.... thanks for the info will try that out

Is that plug even firing?
It might be jet black but never gas-soaked if you do have spark.
Gadget would be correct to look at the injector if you weren't carbed.

Well then it is an ignition problem then. Wires, plug or further up the line.
