Fluid Leak at driver side CV

well i have a small leak from what looks like the cv axle on drivers side. its just a small drip and its even hard to tell the fluid. at first i thought it was tranny fluid since it appeared to have a red tint but my coolant is toyota red also. it doesnt smell like gear oil or appear to be that black but i could be wrong. it looks like its coming from where the cv enters the front diff. has anyone else had a similar problem? i have some pics i just gotta get them uploaded. but i was wondering if this is something to worry about or if its a cheap fix like a simple seal

+1. The Dust Cover for the Front Drive Shaft part number is 41336-35020 and lists for $6.60.

To save any future grief, go ahead and replace the boots on that side with the boot kit 04438-35060. It lists for $38.12.

Check your front diff fluid level as well.

gonna check fluid in mornin. i just got back from campin so i havent been able to. ive only pulled a cv axle off a front wheel drive car before and it, of course had tranny fluid. so...does the front diff on the 4runner have tranny fluid or gear oil? i know thats probably a newbie question but i havent done enough work on the diffs, driveline, tranny etc.

Front diff has gear oil. 75W-90 is the right weight I think.
